Wow the baggage handler was trapped under the aircraft, sounds really serious. Hope the worker is ok.

Aircraft seem to have major stealth abilities when on the ground, as people run into them as if they are invisible. A bus drove in front of my moving 380 in LA…guess he thought I was a stationary building.

As for baggage loaders…you’d be hard pressed to find an aircraft more than one day old that they haven’t managed to run into. But it isn’t just them. There was a driver in Sydney who had worked out that he could drive his little tug under the engines of one of the aircraft, and he did so with increasing speed. It worked until he came across a brand new aircraft (of the same type) that had a different brand of engine, and a bigger cowl. At this point it ended much less well. I’ve heard of others who were used to driving under unfuelled aircraft, who suddenly found a way of working out when they were fully fuelled.

Stupidity isn’t a limited resource.

Interesting in one of the articles QF is quoted as outsourced ground ops having about half the rate of aircraft damage as company operated.......
 
Heard today the damaged 737 flew at 9,000ft (non pressurised) arriving back in Sydney 6+hrs later. Not quite as costly as the Emirates A340 that had a tail strike departing Melbourne back in March 2009. Ended up having to be ferried from Melbourne to Airbus in Toulouse via Perth, Singapore, Dubai and Cairo flying non pressurised below 12,000ft.
 
Serious question: So what actually happens when some idiot drives into a plane? Does Qantas call Suncorp to pay for smash repair?
 

Not sure if this was the incident reported 3ish weeks ago or a new one. I take it that this was a separate incident as QF851 was reported and that is a DRW-PER flight.
