So heres the situation:

Previous history, 1 yr gold, thats all, just made it.
Currently 485 SC
600 to retain by 30 Sept
50% bonus has been offered, so have booked 75 SC worth
Planning international trip Melb - HK with Cathay - 30 SC
Short 10SC

Think i will get comp'd?

As a fall back could book the HK trip with Qantas to get 60 SC, but prefer Cathay.

Thanks for the help

PS: if i do fly with qantas to HK, can i access the Cathay lounge?

Based on the three year rule, I suspect it's unlikely. I'd suggest you either book the QF metal or stick with Cathay and then book a cheap discount Y sector just to be sure.

For 10 SC, why take the risk? At the very least SG is worth the cost of a QP membership, which is over $500 these days.

Why not fly Melb - Syd - HKG?
Don't fly direct when you can connect.

Just ask them. Tell them you're planning your next year's flying, and who it's with is dependent on retaining Gold. Don't kowtow.
If by chance they don't comp you, you'll know how much they value your loyalty.

Airlines hear these lines everyday. Having made one year of SG and struggling to make another year, you're not really in any position to bargain. As others have mentioned just get the final 10 SCs.

Heck do a day return trip to SYD.

Really doesn't sound like loyalty to QF to me

Yes QF golds can go to CX business lounges, as OWS. Not the CX first lounges though.

Within 30 tier points of gaining/renewing status you can call them in the last few weeks of the month before you lose it and it will be referred to a team who will consider it in a case by case basis.
Alternative is a JQ flight with the extra add on for the 10SC. I was in this situation, did a SC run but ended up flying with work and well over the required threshold...

Well I sympathise with the OP.Had he had a renewal date of 30/6 then his plan would easily have made the grade for gold.
Because QFF moved the goalpost 75% into his year I think this should be taken into consideration by QFF and I would consider it harsh if his request was denied.

Of course I am biased.Mrsdrron will fall 10SCs short of requalifying WP due to these changes with our last sector of our recent circle Asia flight being on 3/7.The trip was booked 11 months prior to this flight but not ticketed until 1/4.So she lost a planned 60 SCs.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Because I book through our TA.Dont have to pay until 6 weeks before departing.
Save more in interest on the overdraft than the TAs commission.

thanks for the ideas. i dont think im in a strong negotiation position to get comp'd. might just book the international with qantas... never any eye candy. might just sleep.

Don't take any chances.

I am flying BNE-ROK-BNE on Thursday afternoon as I need 10SCs for Virgin Gold. Out on QF back on VA. I think the return airfare was ~$140 planned in advance.
