Responsible Service of Alcohol Laws and Qantas Lounges

Please Sam, delete that post and scrap that idea from your mind, it would leave me high & dry, pun intended.

Christmas morning I drank 3 bottles of very nice champagne and topped it off in the afternoon/evening with about 10 bottles of corona.

I have been known to drink upwards of 20 (yes 20) pints of bulmers or Heineken and still be fully in control of my actions. The amount people should be allowed to drink has little or nothing to do with the number of standard drinks, but how the individual human body processes those drinks.

So then you revise the technology to be able to tell when you've had enough, not when they think you've had enough ;)

Different to the discussion here, but related to RSA: I just got ID'd for the first time ever in the QF F lounge while waiting for my delayed QF5 service. First time this has happened to me in any lounge.

i would be flattered if i got asked for I.D.

I'd like to revise something I said earlier in this thread about not having alcohol brought to me domestically with Qantas in a lounge. It has happened now with Island Dining.

Now I once was called to the desk in CNS QP and asked if I'd relocate from my 738 seat 4A to an exit row to fit family together. I weighed up that I wasn't losing the prized legroom and agreed.

The Manager later came over to me with a nice bottle of Shiraz to thank me for my consideration. Should I have consumed it hastily in the lounge (30 mins to boarding) or stuff it in carry-on?

This is what I call RSA.

The intention was not for it to be drunk on the spot, therefore I don't see why it would be considered a breach of RSA...
Had the manager then opened it and poured it all into one giant glass it might be a different story...

Very odd request, as why would they need to put a family in EC?
If one of the members was CL, they would just bump you without asking for permission.
If one of the members was WP/SG, they have some nerve asking you to move.

This goes back to the thread "have you been asked to change seats?"

Not airline related, so a bit off topic, but I went to a movie in Gold Class on my own, and ordered a bottle of wine. The waiter (who looked 18) asked me if I was driving, and I said no. He then proceeded to tell me that a whole bottle was a lot to drink, but reluctantly sold it to me. RSA gone crazy.

If I drank an entire bottle of wine by myself during a movie I'd be passed out by the time the credits rolled......

I once walked into the BNE J lounge stone cold sober (although unusual, that is not the story), and had to board shortly thereafter. I asked the guy behind the bar for a couple of scotches...only to save us both the hassle of me asking for another one in a few minutes. And two drinks was all I wanted before the flight anyway. However, he politely declined citing RSA. So the system works....and I got some extra exercise because I had to go to the bar twice.

I've been off the grog completely this year to get fit and lose weight, but when I am drinking, I have quite a scary tolerance.....

GOING OT..BUT CHOOSING TO USE '6DEGREES OF SEPARATION' SOMEHOW TO TIE IN WITH RSA ;) ....'observing' the effects of alcohol on humans (INCLUDING MYSELF) over the years...i have reached the conclusion that alcohol 'heightens/highlights' the TYPE of person you ALREADY are.. i.e. if you're an affectionate person..alcohol makes you MORE affectionate..if you're a chilled/relaxed person..alcohol makes you MORE chilled/relaxed..and if you're a 'tool'..alcohol makes you MORE of a 'tool' ... THIS IS JUST MY OPINION/OBSERVATION..BUT I'M ALREADY SENSING OUTRAGE..AND I WON'T REVEAL MY PERSONALITY TYPE..SO I WILL SHUT MY TRAP NOW!! :-|

Generally agree, though some such "tools" seem to have a bit of self-regulation which they loose when they have too much to drink.

Oh yes- in Bavaria not either, I noticed that last time I was there. It certainly was different back when I grew up there- my granny filled me up with her very "special" fruit punch ;) for the first time when I was three

When I lived in Germany my case of beer was cheaper than the case of bottled water I'd get from the same shop. Beer cheaper than water....heaven.

Given CNS was basically my second office and I used to joke with the QF staff that they used to send my mail to the QP, I got to know the staff pretty well after 15+ years.

This was essentially part of the good QF service one gets in NQ.
