Reserving seats on Etihad flight booked through Velocity

How do I select a seat on Etihad having booked the flight as a Velocity award? Is it possible? I was just going to pick a seat at online check in 24hrs before departure but the flight looks like its going to be quite full so I'd like to do it beforehand.

Call Etihad and quote the PNR.
The seat selection tool on their website is rubbish so I got the feeling that their call centre staff get heaps of requests to move seats.

That's not sounding positive... I have a flight in 10 days (KUL/AUH/GVA). Could only select seats on one of the two sectors when booking (cash, not points) but a few weeks later could select seats on both sectors via Manage Booking. As I'm slumming it in Y, selected aisle seats which had a single empty seat next to it. Booked full Y in the slim hope of an upgrade, but travelling under VA Plat, which I suspect means nothing to Etihad.

Anywaya, is there an issue that seat selections are over-ridden by the airline, or just that the web site functionality is rubbish - as I found it ok. Utilitarian... But it works...
