Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

If possible it would be far better to do a run to EZE as it is miles based. Runs within US are great for SC because they accrue at First Class rate. Eg LAX-xDFW-ORD in domestic F is worth 180SC but only about 3000 miles (2000 x 1.5) whereas J from BNE to LAX is worth 180SC but 10000 miles (7000 x 1.5). It's funny that our travel is better for AA and U.S. Travel is better for QF

Quick question for the experts. When taking an AA flight, do you still get the same points & SC's if the flight is operated by US Airways (booking through AA.com with AA flight number)?

Couldn't find the info online...

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

Yes. It is AA flight, even if flight is on someone else's metal.

Awesome, thank you

My understanding is that it's an AA flight only if the metal is OW. eg if the flight number is AA's but it's operated by EI, you won't earn SC on QF with it.

That is correct.

In general for oneworld, it must be a oneworld operated airline to be credited to a oneworld programme. Following that, it is then up to the marketing carrier as to how you determine the earn.

Star Alliance is different, as the earn depends on the operating carrier. This can be confusing if you have booked a codeshare, and even more so if that means your fare class is remapped when considering the operating carrier.

Re: Appendix 1: Booking Class with One-Way and Return Searches

you can still get around $1.50 USD if you position a start from the Carribean - I know that is not helpful to most :)
Actually we're down in the Carribean for part of that trip - do tell! Even just a starting port if you don't want to give too much away.

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

AA is different (as are BA and QF for that matter)

Travel on AA flight numbers in eligible fare buckets earns with QFF irrespective of the metal.

... and I have indeed earned SC's as well as points.

Storyteller used these a lot on her SEA flights.

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

Hi again everyone

Just about to book my first one of these, but before I do just wanted to see if there is a chance of better routing/more SC earn. I've done a lot of research and ITA matrix has become my new best friend, but I have also relied on only looking on AA for what ITA shows. I know there may be some better route....

Depart 21st September ORD-DFW-LAX-SFO. Total of $480 USD and 220 SC's. I don't mind travelling all day, but the origin and destination are set.

Does anyone have any better ideas/earn? I'm pretty happy with this anyway as an economy seat is over $200 USD

As your dates are set I'd say that's a pretty good deal. Anything in the low $2/SC is acceptable whilst in LOTFAP.

Thanks :)

Only problem I'm having is finding the same times. On Matrix I could get a 9:55am flight departing ORD arriving SFO at 5.40pm (ORD-DFW-LAX-SFO) for $480. On AA.com I can still arrive in SFO at 5.40pm, but the only routing they have at that price departs 7am.

Any tips on finding the times I want? I followed the info at the beginning of this thread but no joy.
