Like others on this forum, my husband is unable to obtain comprehensive travel insurance due to health issues. He feels fitter now than ever and we've considered travelling to Medicare reciprocal countries such as the UK and Italy but need to be sure he could be repatriated, if necessary. Australian repatriation companies I've contacted deal only with insurance companies but a US company called globalrescue offers individual repatriation. Trouble is, I can't find any reference to this company other than on their website.
Has anyone had any experiences with this company, good or bad?
Or does anyone know of an Australian company that offers the same thing?
Better still, could there possibly be an insurance company I don't know of that will cover my husband, even at an excessive premium?
We will welcome any suggestions or advice.

When leading global village teams on trips overseas with Habitat for Humanity, I get insured with Medex with an affordable daily rate. I can't tell you what it is, because its probably a special rate negotiated for Habitat for Humanity International, but there is a lead anyway.

I won't feed you an actual website, but I am sure you are familiar with Google.

Why not try International SOS.
Headquartered in Singapore, but global reach. Centres include Sydney
Many of the insurance companies sub contract to them anyhow.

Can i STRONGLY suggest you need to have some sort of insurance rahter than going-it alone. You'll be familiar with the recent story of the fellow who had an accident whilst travelling in India and was uinable to afford reatriation.

Consider: If your husband becomes unwell enough for a plane you're travelling on to have to land, what will the cost be if it's forced to land in a non-reciprocal healthcare country?

Chubb insures me, and I've got extensive pre-existings. I think you have to go through an insurance broker...

Hi everyone and thank you for taking the time to respond

iquis60 - I hadn't heard of Medex though it seems to operate in a similar fashion to globalrescue. I've emailed them a question, so thanks

redroo - I've also emailed International SOS a question but it looks as if the fine print might disqualify my husband unfortunately

russ - Careflight does do individual repatriation as you say but it's not possible to buy a plan (similar to insurance) as with globalrescue.

docjames - you're singing my tune and I agree absolutely with you. But as we can no longer take out fully comprehensive travel insurance I'm looking for backup plans. We'll make decisions when we have enough information

liamg - Chubb got me excited but I think it's only available for corporations and their employees? Please let me know if you hear anything more

Thanks again

I fit neither of those categories. Call an insurance broker (pref. one you have an existing relationship with) and ask. Can't hurt to try.
