Regulators reject Boeing 777 safety warnings | News.com.au

OK, I no it's no news, and when I posted up my comment blasting them about this article and how just about everything in aviation is a matter of statistics they removed the comments field.

That said, the article does have some "scary stuff" in it (with of course no real evidence, just speculation) so would you still trust a B777 after the G-YMMM incident knowing that the problem which cause it to come down has not yet been fixed?

BTW I've taken two B777 flights since that event and that event didn't even cross my mind for a second.

I am more worried about getting bitten by a snake or spider than flying any aircraft that is not on the EU ban list

:)

Given the location of this article, I'm surprised there's no reference to Qantas, who despite not owning a B777, codeshare services with a BA777 SYD-LHR

There is a procedural work around to the issue. I can't remember exactly what it was, but involved revving up the engines from time to time.

Hey, I'm still more than happy to get on a 777. I'm fairly confident that had there been any real safety risk they would have been grounded until the fix had been applied.

Yep or an A330 as well :)

Damn those Pitot tubes!

I must admit - the thought crossed my mind recently whilst on both BA and CX 777s, but I knew a "work around" was in place to minimise the risk even further.

I was more nervous on QF and CX 330s - there is no known "work around" for the issues the 330 had recently. In fact, no-one seems to know what the issue actually is - that's more concerning.

Was I nervous enough not to fly them - hell no! I'm not usually a nervous flyer, but I do have a fair understanding of what can go wrong, albeit very rarely.

Some flight's i'll be, let's say, less relaxed, than other flights (same carrier, same a/c). But it wont stop me flying.

I'll fly either. But so far I've only had two experiences on an Airbus, a QF A330 and a QF A380 (both this year). So it's not much of a comparision.

I guess the big thing for me is the fact that with Airbus the pilot is never really in control of the aircraft. If the pilot does something that the aircraft computer doesn't like the aircrafts computer will override the pilot, unlike with a boeing where the aircrafts computer will override to a point and then say "your the pilot, you know what your doing" and will give the pilot complete control of the aircraft.

BTW
Q. Whats would an airbus pilots last words be?
A. What's it doing this time...
