i recently booked a ticket from LHR to SYD for myself and my pregnant girlfriend. no problems until the baby is born prematurely (but is thankfully ok).
obviously i dont want to take a newborn and her mother on a 24+ flight in economy.
i booked the tickets directly through qantas.co.uk, and the website states that there is no refund available for our ticket types, but does not mention any special circumstances.
can anyone tell me if a full or even partial refund is a possibilty?
cheeers.

If you purchased a ticket which is non-refundable, then it is not going to be refundable

Most/Many fares have a rule which states "waived for death of family member" or similar but never seen one which says that it is waived for a birth

I don't know what QFs policy is in UK, but you might possibly get a refund of taxes; I would suggest a call to QF in London to see what is the possibility

Also, do check with your travel insurance comapny ( assuming that you have insurance ) to see whether this event would be covered since , if it is, this would give you pretty much a full refund

If you still want to travel, you may be able to apply the value of the fare paid towards a higher fare class such as Premium Economy and hence have more space and better service that in Economy. But the ability to apply the fare value to a new fare type may be dependent on the specific fare rules. Phone Qantas to ask if that is an option and for a quote on the cost difference.

congratulations on parenthood oz_jack

here's a though - check the possibility of putting the value of the non-refundable tix towards a more expensive refundable tix - then refund the full amount!?!?!

The underlying fare condition (that is non refundable) will still apply.
