Reference sectors in a booking

First off, is that the right terminology?

Secondly, how easy is it to get AA staff to add them? (They'll be CX sectors)

Thirdly, does this "help" in through checking baggage?

"Passive Segments" is the generic GDS term. Also terms I have come across are "information"/"Ghost" segments.

It really depends upon the caliber of the staff / agent, but can be done relatively easily if 1) They know how & 2) want to do it for you.

It's should not specifically 'help' in relation to luggage but at least airline staff would know where you are coming for or going to when they access your PNR.

Passive segments given to an airline's reservation department do not generate across to checkin although as Serfty mentioned it's handy info for an airline to have in the event of a disruption as the airline can see all your flights.

In your case, if you advise AA res of your CX flights they won't show in the checkin system so you will have to give the AA CSA the flight details again at the airport so your bags can be tagged through to CX.

As AA & CX are OneWorld that won't be an issue as AA will even check bags through to non OW airlines eg NZ even if AA & NZ flights are on separate pnrs.
