Novel idea and presumably within the current T&Cs.

This could create a whole new marketplace until AMex change the T&Cs.

Which is what I fear... One of the benefits of the free flight is that it can be given to anyone - mine went to a friend (and nearly ended up being given away on here as the friend was a little tardy in confirming details and my year was close to ending!).

If Amex were to cull that transferability, then that would disadvantage me.

Perhaps they will implement a "cannot be resold" type clause - which is common in similar situations.

Personally I would hate to sell something like that through Ebay. The flight T&C's with booking/ticket changes etc are such that an auction like that can be very problematic.

I think that 'auction' buyers have a higher level of acceptance of restrictions. As consumers we make an unconscious correlation between reduced price and reduced flexibility. By buying (and selling) through an auction house we expect difficulties.

To be blunt, Ebay is full of idiots both selling and buying (and yes I transact there a reasonable amount!). All you have to do is to look at some of the feedback given to people for things that were completely out of their control, or where the buyer had no clue what they were buying.

Even the questions already asked on that auction show the type of buyer who would buy the ticket, and potentially how much work it would involve.

I suppose from Amex's point of view if this drives up their level of premium cards they may not care that much, as long as they'r enot getting calls from irate ebay purchasers.

Must admit it's sorta tempting for the extra points

I do think it's unfair that Perth get Sydney but Sydney only gets as far as ADL

They had to give options for PER otherwise if PER was figured on the same basis as the other centres then they wouldn't be allowed anywhere!

Feel sorry for HBA - they only get MEL to go to. Makes it a lot harder to make good use of your card fee of $295.

The first two years you could do PER from anywhere. They quickly culled that when they realised it was more than the price of the annual fee. I used MEL-PER for the first two years I had my card. Now, I tend to book PER-MEL return, and then cobble together MEL-PER and PER-MEL flights around it. That way it's kinda 2-for-1 at least.
