Looking at BNE to FCO - each day is already waitlist in J. Can book separate legs BNE-SIN and SIN-FCO with no problem at all
Have not redeemed for 6 months and previously had no problem booking in J to Europe for 4 people on first available day.
Is this the new norm now or just picked difficult days
I would book separate legs but there is a decent penalty to book separate

I think FCO doesn't have many flights.

Can you look at flying into other cities such as MXP, ZRH, FRA? Better to have something locked in and then just catch a train or short flight to FCO.

Yes you are correct
Lots of other options including Milan
It was made about the limited availability on booking nearly a year in advance compared with doing that previously
The bigger question being has SingaporeAir reduced the number of award redemption flights

Doubt it. I think there are many people who accumulated so many points and they have to burn all their points before expiry. So everyone just book as soon as available.

Yep makes sense - I guess I was comparing normal flying times - flood gates are open now - everyone wants to travel
I have some time to book but looking at split legs as have plenty of points

I saw something similar last year when I was booking SYD - AMS.

SYD - SIN and SIN - AMS were available separately but not as SYD - AMS until 24 hours after the separate segments.

I guess that less people were booking then so the 24 hour wait was not a problem.

I wondered if it had something to do with it not being 355 days for the AMS leg of the journey - but that does not tie in with SIN - AMS being available.

It's not just 355 days out anymore, I found a SYD-SIN-FRA flight in SQ business award seat for a few months from now, even though the SIN-FRA segment wasn't available by itself.

RE: all of the above;

Married segments.

Different award availabilities for xx_-YYY, YYY-ZZZ and xx_-YYY-ZZZ. What might show as evidence for 2 J seats on xx_-YYY and YYY-ZZZ doesn't necessarily constitute proof that there's 2 J seats on xx_-YYY-ZZZ. Just the way the GDS works, every itinerary has its own availability loaded in.

So book the separate legs then?

Yep, if all options for xx_-YYY-ZZZ are not bookable then the best bet is xx_-YYY and YYY-ZZZ separately (if I had sufficient points and a specific desired date of travel, I would go for this option as it locks the redemption in, better than foregoing the travel or worse, travelling in Y long-haul (yuck!))!

Yeah I ended up doing that. Just a tiny worry if first flight is late then no cover for the second flight. We have 3hrs transit on the way there

Can't do long haul Y anymore

I feel you, I really feel you.

3 hrs tranist should be plenty fine, SQ is usually good with avoiding delays :)

Sorry to hijack the thread but just a related query from a novice after browsing forum - if you book separate legs (redemption) due to the above issue of no availability on the through fare, are you able to get the two bookings linked by SQ to A) check bags all the way through and B) have any kind of protection for delays considering both booked with SQ on SQ aircraft?

A is not an issue if you ask nicely at check in. B is a concern

Isn't B the same as what normally happens when you book a straight through flight eg going to europe and stopping in Singapore - can't see it being an issue

On B - SQ is not obliged to help you but realistically they would since the entire itinerary is on their metal. I would do this without a worry in the world. Do check that advantage through fares are not available and would not be cheaper than two separate saver legs though.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

PPS I think gives me slightly better availability outside of school holidays in July and August?

Note SYD/MEL - SIN - FCO/MXP is 130k in J Saver
SYD/MEL - SIN is 68k
SIN - FCO/MXP is 105k.

So quite expensive to book separately.

Wondering if anyone has luck combining two confirmed segments into one itin?
