Can I get compensation from airline on redemption ticket for baggage delay?

SYD-SIN (SQ)

Bags delayed for a day
End up buying warm clothing, hire board and gears for a day
Insurance said will only pay for emergency clothing $250 and may not on non essential (TID)

When at shop, owner told me she had customer flying on CX with bags delayed and CX pay for everything

Would CA entertain my letter and whom should I write to, or is it just wishful thinking?

Insurance will be your best bet, CA unlikely to pay anything I suspect, especially as it was a day.

there is no difference if you are on an award ticket.

The Air China policy for delayed bags is here, which also includes time limits for making a claim:

Air China International

The limits for delayed baggage are as follows:

  • The one-time compensation for baggage delays are RMB300 (or equivalent currency) for Economy Class, RMB400 (or equivalent currency) for Business Class and RMB500 (or equivalent currency) for First Class.

I can confirm CX is fairly generous with delayed baggage compensation, giving me around AUD60 for a three hour delay, but they certainly don't pay 'for everything'. In general insurance policies will pay for essentials.
