Hi everyone,
I'm in a bit of a bind and was wondering if anyone here could help point me in the right direction.

Last year me and my partner booked a trip to the US. We booked the SYD-LAX return sitting in W via delta.com (as there was a price glitch that made it much cheaper than booking via VA). One of of internal US flights was also paid for by cash on Delta (the rest were booked with points). Unfortunately, due to me getting a new job, we had to cancel the trip. When cancelling the flights on Delta.com I was given eCredits for the value of the flights minus $400 per passenger so I've ended up with a bit over $3000 worth of credit.

I have to use this credit by December this year and I am not able to squeeze in a trip to the states in this time so I've been looking for a way to use this Delta credit on VA domestic or short-haul international flights. The delta website won't let me book any VA flights except for codeshares to and from LAX. Does anyone know a way to use this credit without flying to the US?

Thanks in advance.

The short answer is no. Delta doesn't want to own a ticket that consists of all-code-share flights/partner metal.

The long answer is, maybe. You can force Delta to price out certain tickets using ITA Powertools + ITA Matrix. I booked Vietnam this way (using an eCert).

1. Learn Matrix - ITA Software by Google
2. Download ITA Powertools.

3. Search for your flights and book with Delta.

I wasn't able to get this to work with domestic VA flights but at least you'll have another tool to play with.

Also keep in mind that the cert expires in December but that just means you have to BOOK by then. You can fly next year if you want.

I have had Delta credit before and it forces you to use Delta with DL flights. ( Unless you can achieve something like what nichojo has suggested )

You could also look at booking by December, but buy a fully refundable fare and then cancel the flight next year and move it out again.

Before you do any of this, you must check the cancellation policy and any fees and charges and what implications it may have. I have not done it but maybe an option

Thanks for the response. I was playing around with ITA looking at booking a flight with Vietnam via Delta.com and noticed that there was an option to add my velocity number to the ticket. Even though it it a VN flight without a DL codeshare am I still able to earn points/status credits for VA on the flight? Thanks again

Who knows. I highly doubt you get anything unless it's a codeshare.
