Hi all, first time QFF here!

I have just signed up for the Frequent Flyer program and then booked a flight from BNE to Horn Island through Cairns on a red-e-deal ticket and was not credited with any points for the trip. Does a red-e-deal ticket get points, or is it only the fully flexible fares that do? Could it be that because i have only just signed up it will take time for the points to be deposited? Im a little bit pissed off at the moment, as it seems I have wasted my $82.50 and my girlfriends $82.50 by signing us up when we wont be able to get any points anyway! (we only travel domestic on red-e-deals)

Can anyone give me any info as to whether i am entitled to any points, I have searched and couldnt find any info.

Cheers.

Hi Hoges,

Firstly welcome to AFF and also to QFF. Before long we'll have you off doing mileage runs and status chasing from bne to perth via syd, mel, asp, and adl :)

From what I've seen anything you can book on the Qantas website will earn you a minimum of 1000 pts, per segment - actually in the red-emails they make a big point of that. So you're right, you should get 4000 pts for your trip (4 segments).

Sounds like something got a bit mixed up in your booking. I'm assuming you've already flown the flights (no points until you fly) so put in a request on the QF website for missing credit - try:

https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do/dyns/auth/claimpoints/prepop

Otherwise you can fax in your boarding pass to the QFF service centre - their fax number is on the website. Have used this a few times and have had no problems.

Good luck, and hope your trip to Thursday Island went well - looks like a great place

Cheers

James

Thanks mate, hehe i like the sounds of a points run, If i wasnt a poor uni student i could see myself doing something like that lol anything to get out of economy!

No points till you fly huh.... Well i guess that makes sense. LOL man i feel like a bit of a goose now  *damn noobs* Yeah my flight isnt till sept so i guess after that all will be good!

On an unrelated topic: Would it be worth changing my credit card over to an ANZ QFF card to get teh 5000 bonus pts and 1pt per $1 spent? basically the only thing i use the card for will be paying for my tickets online.

no worries mate, it takes a while to get your mind around all the different rules and procedures etc. Keep reading this board as theres plenty of people here who can answer pretty much any question you have - you'll learn a lot!

If you didnt have your FF number when you booked the flights, call up qantas 13 11 31 and get them to add your number to the booking. Also, when you check in for the flights, give them your shiny new bronze card and make sure the number is in there. It should be printed on your boarding pass too. If you do this, within a day or so (maybe sooner) it should show up on the website.

enjoy the trip

cheers

I used my number when i booked my ticket, so my points should be all good. However my girlfriend is making the same trip, but had her tickets booked a few weeks ago, but only signed up for QFF today, is it possible to get points for her flights too?
Yeah it is pretty confusing the way the whole program is set up, if I hadnt found this forum I still would have no idea what was going on, Qantas really should give a bit more info when or before you sign up!

haha im sure ill have a great time, too bad i have to do prac for my uni course up there, although im sure the dry bread rolls in economy will more then make up for it :?

Welcome to AFF, hoges.

Yes, you just need to link her flight to her QFF number, so ring QF again on 131 131.

Ok thanks, just rang qantas then and got her flights linked to her FF number.

How long ago can you get credited with points to your account, for example I made a return trip to HID in July, and still have my boarding passes and emails etc relating to the flight, is it possible to get points for those flights?

They are usually lenient about it (within a month or so), so give it a go by emailing or photocopying the BP's and send in to the QFF Service Centre. You have nothing to lose, but points and SC's to gain...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Well it didnt take long for me to get bitten by the status chasing bug, ive been doing some thinking today and it seems i will be 50 SC's short of Silver by this time next year, this is based on me making 5 trips BNE-CNS-HID, each giving me 50 SC's return. I should also be credited with 50 SC's for the trip i made in July, so giving me a total of 300 SC's by July next year. I think i have found a pretty good status run - BNE-CTL-RMA and back that should give 60 SC's for $430 odd worth of tickets. Does this seem like a good run? Either that or on the christmas holidays my gf and i could do BNE-SYD-MEL-ADL_BNE for a holiday which would give 45 SC's for around the same price, but leaving me 5 short of silver.
ANyone have any other suggestions?

hoges, great to hear that they gave you the retrospective credit for both you and your girlfriend.

You'll want to check out StevePER's Status Chaser calculatorhttp://www.harshbutfair.org/s2c2 - I tthink you'll find better SC/$ runs (but perhaps not very exciting places like ROK, etc)...

BNE/SYD/SIN/SYD/BNE on a fare like TPLX (if you can find availability) would set you back about $1,048 plus taxes per person (~$1,257 including taxes). That gives you K class QF BNE/SYD/BNE and BA WT+ (Premium Economy) SYD/SIN/SYD. You could also probably interpose MEL with SYD for same cost (not quite sure).

SYD/SIN is ~3,908 miles (plus 10% bonus) for 60 SC's (each way) and BNE/SYD is 468 miles for 20 SC's; then the total trip gives 9,534 miles and 160 SC's

MEL/SIN is ~3,749 miles (plus 10% bonus) for 60 SC's (each way) and BNE/MEL is 859 miles for 30 SC's; then the total trip gives 9,966 miles and 180 SC's

That's not a bad $$ per SC on QF/BA...$7.85 for via SYD and $6.98 for via MEL.
