Had the pleasant experience today of having Qantas mail me back a book that I left on a flight from PER to MEL last week (I hadn't even called them to ask). Was very happy, as book was from o/s and not available here.

Guarantees that I will use a boarding pass for a bookmark all the time !

I travelled back on UA ex LAX, and left digital camera on board. By the time I had got home, they had left a message for me telling me that I could pick it up from the MEL airport. I called and picked it up the next day..... No other ID, other than I left it in the seat pocket.

Good case for no seat switching.....

Last year I was flying LAX-IAD-LHR on UA. Unbeknown to me, I left my briefcase containing various papers (none of which were irreplaceable) on the LAX-IAD plane.

I then transferred to the IAD-LHR flight and settled down with a pre-departure glass of something fizzy (they called it "champagne", I think). As I was sitting there, enjoying my drink, a UA employee came up to me and handed me my briefcase.

I was quite impressed, as the only ID on the bag was my Mileage Plus number.

Full marks to UA on that occasion.

I left a book on plane last Friday after my MEL-CBR flight and received a call within the hour (before I even realised I had left it there) from QF baggage services at CBR that they had my book and I could pick it up on my way back at out that afternoon. Even better, given that the bookmark I was using was a DJ boarding pass.

I wouldn't. What if they don't return book and you need to mail/fax in boarding pass for missing credit?

Depends on the flight. I'm wouldn't leave a MEL-LHR BP in a book for that very reason. But for a typical QF short flight, with my FF no on the BP it's not a big issue. In 6 years of taking such flights, I can't recall a single instance were the flight hasn't been credited, and even if it wasn't it 1,000 pts isn't such a big deal.

Lucky you. They're getting to know me well for my calls for missing mileage credit (and no online claiming doesn't work in my circumstance). It may be only 1000 points (before loyalty bonus accrual) and 10 SCs per flight, but it does add up.

How come you keep missing out on SC's and milage. I have never missed out on an actual flight. Only thing I have missed out on was SC's for 2 F flights in US, when chicago was shut, and I was put on a direct Y flight. After advice from the AFFers I sent in an email and got the SC's and miles as if I flew the F flights.

special circumstance - computer is programmed to assume itinerary is an error thus won't credit automatically (or even through online missing mileage)

I have found that with QF if you fly the same segment more than once in a calendar day; only one will post.

First time was when I flew SYD-MEL twice on the same day; the second flight did not automatically post and I had to put in a claim.

Or perhaps due to your nationality ?? Special rule for Kiwi's and another rule for the rest .... maybe the bug will be fixed at the same time that QF allow you be eligible for FF promotions & competitions ....:-|

I left a leather jacket in the overhead bin on a BA flight into LHR. The following day I went asked at an info desk about lost property before boarding my next BA flight. I was given some phone numbers but could not get them to work or could not get an answer.

So I ended up at the BA lounge at T1 domestic and asked the lounge staff there whether the phone number I had was correct and what area code etc I needed to prefix it with. They took the challenge and called the lost property dept and located my jacket and even arranged for someone to bring it to me in the lounge. I was reunited with my jacket before departure. I was very impressed with their efforts to help me out.

fortunately I am yet to lose something onboard, apart from my whole bag, and the odd book left behind

now in saying this I'll probably lose something on the way to ozfest :D

Ahh, Generally not a problem out of Perth, as it is difficult to fly the same route twice in the same day, and have any meaningful time inbetween
