Recent status run from Australia to NZ return

I get there at 6.15pm and leave at 8.45pm.

Those timings shouldn’t be an issue. I think the conflicting reports are for itineraries involving transiting overnight.

Transit area is definitely there and as long as you have an onward boarding pass (and assuming you’re hand luggage only), there’s no reason you wouldn’t be able to transit and avoid immigration, especially given your arrival/departure times.

I have used it but it was pre COVID.

Do not stress, I have seen many anecdotes from PAX using it while transiting AKL when flying QF3/QF4 (generally complaints on how long the queue is).

Australian agent will no longer give you the return boarding pass to Australia - you can get around this by checking in on line on your phone.

I’ve done it. Checked in online both ways. Flew QF3 across, landed around 2pm. Went through international transit security lane and straight to lounge for departure on QF146 at around 4pm.

I did it last month and am doing it again tomorrow, both same day during the day. AKL Transit open, no need to clear immigration.

Yes it's a very simple process that time of day. Straight through transit security and to the lounge/boarding gate etc.

That is really interesting. I've never flown international without a paper boarding pass, it would make me feel 'naked'.

Do the staff at the transit counter check to see that you have an onward boarding pass? I've been through many times but can't remember if it is a check they do or not.

- After disembarking, follow signs to Transit area
- Check in at the lounge
- Board flight back to Aus.

I've never had them ask to see a boarding pass.

Your APIS data is already in the system and if necessary, they can sight at the gate. If there's potential issues, the online system will deny giving you a mobile BP.

Depends on the airport. Some airports you need to scan your next boarding pass as part of the transit process. AKL is not one of those

You can obtain paper boarding passes @ Syd check in and also AKL lounge

I'm not sure if I'll get moved on since I'm transiting domestically instead of international. I was hoping to spend the evening airside then clear immigration in the morning and proceed to my domestic flight.

No experience with this specific scenario, but I arrived in AKL last night, so this may assist others.

The was an announcement as I was leaving the terminal about 12:30am that domestic was closed and would reopen at 4am.

So while I can’t help with your query on International, clearing immigration and staying overnight in the Domestic terminal won’t be an option.

FWIW the ibis budget is a 15 min walk and usually less than NZD150 per night.

I only managed five hours sleep last night before my onward flight, but still better than hanging around in the airport IMHO.
