Recent Experiences with Qantas' terminal transfer at SYD

From int to dom, so they would drop pax off in the open area, ie, before dom sec processing?
Shows doesnt it?

Mmm, 8mm of rain at 6pm yesterday, ahhh.

No or min maintenance, and this is what happens.

At at 1700 4 November, pax being advised the inter-terminal transfer (gate 15) is not available as damaged by storms last night.

They have apparently put on extra buses after arrivals.

Edited for clarity:

There was no internal bus running, all Qantas passengers going to domestic checked their bags as usual, then instead of going through security there and into the holding area, we were told to go outside and get a Qantas external bus.

Last Wednesday I had to drop my bags at international then get an external Qantas bus to domestic and go through security there. It was free.

Same thing yesterday morning when SWMBO arrived from Canada. I was told the airport was doing upgrades and the current x-ray area was blocked off with black plastic. Hopefully upgrading those x-ray machines!

You weren't challenged by staff? I am sure some posts indicate that staff aren't happy if you don't use the internal transfer bus.

Gosh why should staff bother? If they cannot organise a decent passenger experience might as well do it yourself to your own liking!

Assuming it's runing, something about your luggage already being sent through via their system so they need you to also board the transfer bus. Literally chased us down earlier this year saying that has to be the case to make the last transfer bus.

From the posts, it seems some form of change occurred some time ago. But when I arrived at Sydney Int. on Sep 5 the process was as always -- collect luggage at Int, hand it to Dom counter at Int terminal, go through Security at Int terminal, take bus to Dom terminal and collect luggage at final destination.

I went through here on 5 October

Take your own luggage the 400 metres to the Dom counter outside the international terminal and ask them to remove the luggage tag as you will take it onboard the domestic flight as carryon cause the 100ml liquids rule doesn’t apply

The internal bus wasn't running, everyone was going outside to a Qantas bus, I had to show my boarding pass. Please see updated message above. Same for SWMBO yesterday.
Staff said the airport was making changes, hence the need for an external bus.

Mid-September I made a mistake the day we were flying out to SIN then BKK. I'd taken the Europcar hire car back to off-site drop off in Mascot when I could have actually dropped the car off at International.

Europcar shuttle took us to T3 Domestic. We had 7 pieces of luggage and waited for transfer bus. First transfer bus was full and we then had to wait for next transfer bus which also filled up quite quickly.

I checked Uber and it was $40 which is totally ridiculous. Luckily we had a lot of time up our sleeve and still had plenty of time in lounge before flight.

Always factor in lounge time.
