Hi,

I have both a Gold charge card and a Platinum Edge card from Amex but didn't receive the offer.

I just rang up to see why not because it was so lucrative.

They told me the main targeting criteria was not having paid your ATO bill on your card in 12 months. I met this criteria so they investigated further. Somehow the system had turned me off from receiving marketing offers. That has now been rectified but they are still looking into whether I can be made eligible for this offer having missed the email mailout.

Only applied to Platinum personal cards and some business cards. So if you didn't get it and hadn't paid your taxes for 12 months then maybe check to see if your marketing offers settings are turned off like me.

Dale.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This is a very interesting development.

Surely they must know that people aren't going to regularly use their Amex-issued cards for regular payments after this promo when they only pay 0.5 pts/$ at 1.45% surcharge = 2.9 c/pt (ignoring the points on the surcharge). That's barely cheaper [edit: more expensive in fact] than straight up buying them from Amex.

Maybe they're interested to see how many people pay tax by CC to see what the're missing out on because of the low earn rate (although they could see how many bank-issued Amexes are being used for that purpose I assume).

It seems unlikely that they would offer >1pt/$ on any cards, but even if they increased the earn to 1 pt/$ @ 1.45% surcharge = 1.45 c/pt, I reckon people would interested (at least as a backup) given the flexibility of Amex MR points compared to other programs and the death of Altitude Black.

Odd. Mine was turned off too. Just the email.

You do realize , this is a ploy by the ATO to encourage plane spotters to pay ALL of their tax, and on time !!

What ? - they don't need to do that - many here have spent the last month's or weeks paying ahead of time ...

paid 600 yesterday pts in account now.
wish it was on all 3 cards:mrgreen:

I've got 2 other AMEX cards w' no tax payments on them. On the phone now to see if I can get the offer.

Is it worth paying your tax with a CC card though? They charge a percentage to do this.

Card type

Fee
Visa/MasterCard
(effective from 1 September 2013)
0.42%
American Express
(effective from 1 August 2012)
1.45%

Pay $500 at an av of 1% for 15,000 points plus, I'd say so.

Fair enough, at the moment its worth it but when they're not offering the 15000 points, is it worth it?

Can you confirm if its possible to get the offer without getting an email?

vitagen, I didn't get an email but was just reading the threads. Could go on ATO site and have a look I suppose.

I called AMEX as I didn't get it. She knew nothing about it and nor did her colleagues. So, I haven't made any progress except to get my AMEX notifications updated, but still no email for me.

She asked me to forward the email to her - should I copy the bit of from the OP to AMEX - I don't have anything to lose at the moment.

I have highlighted in red the part that says it is by invitation. Sadly. :(

I got it too. I just paid my quarterly payg a couple of weeks ago. Anybody know if I can pay ATO in advance?

Simple....................... just use the EFT number on the last bill to pay $ 501.00, puts your running account in credit until the next bill
