1,315I received the following e-mail recently:

Qantas Frequent Flyer membership status is reviewed annually to ensure that
we continue to reward and recognise our most frequent flyers. This review
also helps us to improve and refine member benefits and privileges in the
future.

A preliminary review of your flight activity to date indicates that you may
not re-qualify for your Gold membership when we re-assess it in September.

To view a summary of your membership, including your current Status credits
balance, visit https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyns/LoginForm

We value your ongoing support for Qantas and we hope that we can extend
your Gold membership for another year.

To help us do this, simply supply by return email any relevant information
regarding your travel plans over the next 12 months with Qantas, one world
alliance airlines or Air Pacific.

Alternatively, you may contact the Frequent Flyer Service Centre on 13 11
31 within Australia, 0800 101 500 within New Zealand, (61) 3 9658 5302 from
elsewhere, or by fax on (61) 1300 305 747.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard your next Qantas flight.

I have been at gold for the last 5 years, and I reached hth level when I was flying for government on a regular basis- and I'm not flying as often anymore. Also in past years it appears to have been reassessed and continued without question, even though I had not technically reached the level required. I travel 1-2 times a month on short domestic journeys and will be having two international leisure trips in 06 -07: One to NZ and then around the world in July 07.

Any suggestiuons as to how I might coax Qantas into renewing my status?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

QFF are looking for you to provide them with reasons to requalify you. So present your travel plans in the best light.

With 85 SCs your 1-2 trips a month are presumably not all on QF. If some of them are on Jetstar (eg all JQ route or QF schedule terrible), be sure to point out that you'd love to have more on QF but for these reasons you could not. If next year looks busier than this year (you're an optimist right ;) ) then say so.

A RTW 9 months into your membership year could be presented positively or negatively. Assuming you haven't booked yet, say you are in final planning stages and deciding between OW and *A. If you had QF Gold you'd book with OW and include lots of QF legs, otherwise ... (give credible reasons for booking with *A)

Etc.

Some people could suggest that you er, tell a porky. Alternatively you could make up a story or advise them of intended travel in an erroneous manner.

I dont think it is wise to tell and outright lie, but fine to put travel plans in the best possible light. Plans can change.

Funny how people can say the same things, only differently;)

Perhaps book a couple of domestic business class fares that are fully refundable.

I put some quite remarkable marketing spin on my travel plans once (based on what I had learned from Qantas spin doctors). As it turned out, I was surprisingly accurate.

Just tell them your plans, include RTW and from what has happened with a couple people I know, they will extend it for the yr. In one case I know the guy, was to be re-assessed; so he stated the no of flights he intended and go the Gold, did about 500 SCs and had it re-newed the 2nd yr as well. The other person I know did the same except he lost he job, got a new one without flighing and did only 120 SCs and Qantas didn't renew it after extra yr they gave him.
Thus, tell them what you hope to do.
