Reason for Frequent Flyer card?

Best use for the QF card...When travelling with more than one person I give someone else my boarding pass to get lounge access and I walk in showing card.

Obviously only for domestic - but its good to get a win over the system. :D

Might work in SYD and certainly in BNE.

But unlikely in MEL or smaller QP's where non WP cards are religiously swiped to determine eligibility (or travel is otherwise determined).

swiping in MEL? since when does that ever happen?

i have been SG for about 12 months now and have never once been asked to either swipe my FF card or show a boarding pass at MEL QP, and i do monthly trips SYD-MEL-SYD

Same goes for T3 in SYD, but they do check religiously at T2

At the very least, until I became WP in Nov 2005 -this after being SG for the previous 4 years.. :p

Seriously, MEL was religious with this until about 18 months ago I guess - SYD T3 had been regular swipers until earlier that year.

If things have changed, there you go ...

i suspect that they figure that all the effort of checking at SYD T3 and MEL probably isnt worth it, given the effort that a non-QF flier would have to go through to bother entering the QP

at SYD, T3 is exclusively for QF, so a DJ flier would need to walk across to T3 and clear security to enter the QP, then would need to head back to T2 and clear security again to board their DJ flight. for some bird seed and heavy traffic in the QP, why would anyone bother? makes sense then that they check heavily at T2 but don't bother at T3

same goes for MEL, except that the distance from the DJ terminal is probably even greater still!

The person on the phone was about to suggest I send it in; and I thought that was a bit strange but after some more typing away they confirmed my address and will send one in the mail.

I will see how long it takes to issue a new card and I will report back.

New card; with old logo :( turned up today, so looks like it takes about just under 2 weeks. The letter had the new logo; the envelope had the old logo; should I ask for a new card with the new logo. ;)

One question; do all the QF cards; Silver/Gold/Plat cards show the date you joined QF frequent flyer.

The QF Platinum card has a "Member Since" date and a "Valid Until End" date on the card. I would guess that it is the same with the Silver and Gold cards.
