We have successfully booked J Class flights for our overseas holiday next year from Melb - Hong Kong - Madrid, which we are delighted about.

When making the booking though, it didnt allow me to select seats ... simply our preference of window or aisle. Is there a way that we can actually select the seats that we would prefer instead of awaiting random selection by the airline?

I think youll need to go to the CX website to select seats.

I not sure if the QF PNR and CX PNR are the same (they may be); if not get the CX PNR from Qantas, go to the Cx website's "manage my booking" and enter your details and select away

Correct. Get the PNR for the QF site then use that to manage your booking and seats left there.

I was unable to select seats last year (CX flight albeit on a Finnair booking -- neither website). Called CX in Australia and seats selected and stuck (and showed up on Finnair booking thereafter). Try this if the above suggestions don't work for you.

Thank you all for the advice. All fixed now ... was able to go into the Cathay Pacific website to manage the booking with the Qantas booking reference number and select seating.

Go to the Cathay site and choose 'manage' your booking. Use your reference number from Qantas. You can then select seats, special meals etc.

Ive done this twice after making a Qantas award booking recently.

The small cabin at the front of J is the pick to get. We parked in the second row of that cabin a few times and it's a good spot. Quiet enough and no disturbance from the galley or toilets.
You will enjoy that flight. But make sure when you get to HKG you go to the lounge closest the departure gate because it is a big joint and takes a while to get from one end to the other.

They are. QF and CX both use the same GDS. Bookings create 1 PNR per GDS used.
