Hey Guys,

I won't lie, kinda overwhelmed by a heap of stuff going on, and would really love some clarification.

At present, I'm flying from SYD to LAX next Wednesday evening, starting in Brisbane Wednesday morning (the things you do to get on the Dreamliner)

At present I've booked a histopath PCR test in Sydney that same day (I'm arriving 9 hours before my LA flight so I've allowed heaps of time)

Murphys law - I've just been a close contact at work. I've had two negative RATs and just gone for a PCR test on my way home, and my partner and I now have no intentions of leaving the house till our flight next Wednesday.

Would it make more sense for me to book a Histopath RAT at Brisbane Airport the day before (as the US allows tests at least one day prior) to have full peace of mind? I don't really want to get to Sydney now and find out I'm showing up positive. I'd rather go Tuesday morning, do a rat close to home and then know I'm fine (and perhaps actually start getting excited for this long overdue holiday)

Does anyone foresee a problem with this? From what I can tell this is perfectly acceptable?

Thanks for your help,

-Overwhelmed Ryan,

Hey Ryan, hang in there mate. I am happy to be corrected, but my understanding is the test is required as per CDC last update 27th Jan 22.

The test will need to be shown to the airline before boarding, so I'd get it done in Brisbane and check with the airline when you arrive early, to give you time for another test if they ask for it (if you get one in BNE and its negative, there's an extremely high probability that you test negative again).

Good luck to you both.
  • If you plan to travel internationally, you will need to get a COVID-19 viral test (regardless of vaccination status or citizenship) no more than 1 day before you travel by air into the United States. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight.

Yes, you would have needed to get it in Brisbane anyway.

Also, for what it's worth, you're less likely to test positive on a RAT if you don't have symptoms.

Yes. This.

The only exception would be if the BNE-SYD flight was on a separate booking altogether and OP checked in separately in Sydney for the international flight.

That's exactly what I had to do.

At time of booking BNE to LAX it would never give me a route through Sydney so I could get on the Airbus. Even putting SYD down as a stopover. Just kept showing me the A330 direct flights.

Seperate bookings it is with a big delay in the middle.

At least I know I can get the test Tuesday morning now at Bris, then somewhat go about my life just before I travel on Wednesday down to Syd then LAX. (Albeit masked up and what not)

Thanks all :)
