Northern hemisphere Muslims must do it much tougher than Muslims in the southern hemisphere. Daylight is shorter here.
Just a random thought. Nothing to do with anything.

We were in Dubai for last year's Ramadan. I found it extremely challenging. The temperature is in the mid forties, all day and much of the night. All the shops that sold food were closed during the day. If you wanted water I found people going into the toilets to do so. The sweets shop for instance, near the glass aquarium, would not give out samples during the day, and would not sell things that would be eaten straight away, like icecream. I developed a dehydration headache (I had a cold) and desperately needed a drink to take some headache tablets and could not buy a bottle of water anywhere. The malls were deserted. It was too hot to sit by the pool! An hour and you were done. The hotels did not serve alcohol until sunset. The restaurant downstairs was screened off from the guests (it was used as a Iftar buffet after sunset and very busy. I would never go during Ramadan again mainly because the restrictions, and the heat made it unbearable. We have been in Indonesia during Ramadan and this was a whole new level (of pain!). The only good thing was that the Intercontinental was devoid of guests so we were given an upgrade to a Suite - which took up half our floor.

We flew with Emirates and received alcohol whilst on board. No issues there.

I did a trip report - will come back with the link.

I was in Istanbul during ramdadan a few years back and finding alcohol was almost impossible!

My Muslim colleagues fast for the same period of time as those in the Middle East. Even if the day is shorter here.
