RAAF Readies for Super Hornet

Feb 2, 2010

Singapore Air Show

The Royal Australian Air Force is set to formally accept into service its first F/A-18F Super Hornet on March 26.

The handover kicks off a process to reach initial operational capability with the first F/A-18F Super Hornet squadron by year end, with 12 aircraft to be handed over, RAAF service chief Air Marshal Mark Binskin tells Show News. The first unit will be No. 1 squadron based at Amberley.

Not really interesting, either.

Now if the Australian Govt had the guts to try and buy the F-22 (in conjunction with Japan), that would be interesting.

The overweight, overpriced, piece of lard F-35 won't cut it I'm afraid.

But that's (stupid) politicians for you...

How did you come to that conclusion. You could buy 2 JSF(70-80million) for the price of a Raptor(200 million). What is the weight of the raptor v JSF??

Maybe they thought of that as an option :!: Maybe they were told NO, and by the way the price is too high anyway.

.... and that is based on :?:

Do you have a realistic alternate to the F/A-18F Super Hornet at the moment :?:

Good luck getting congress to change their minds about exporting the F-22.

We'll just have to wait for the JSF.
