Rookie Question. If I have to provide a passport number to book a flight and the passport will need to be renewed before I fly- will that be problematic? ie obviously the details change. Do airlines cross check what number you supplied when booking- with the passport you're presenting?

No it's not an issue. It can be updated once you have the new one.

I’ve done it before for flight bookings, with no problems. I did advise the airline once the new details became available.
BUT... I waited until I had the new passport before getting Visas, to make sure that the details matched.

I have done this before and simply updated on the booking after new passport was issued.
