QuickTrip allocated me an Exit Row!

I just was wondering if this had happened to anyone else...

I stuck my card in, and it came up with my flights, and that it had given me 12F on a 734. Then when I went to print the boarding pass it said to go to the Customer Service desk to collect my boarding pass as I was in an exit row.

Very Interesting... From all accounts the flight is quite full, J is full so no on departure upgrade... Feeling a little hungrier than a whY meal will fulfil me.

I wonder whether QF can see that I have requested this before, or have requested them for my future international flights? The sequence number was over 100, so I am relatively late to check in!

I still would have prefered 4A or 4F, but anyway... An exit works as well!

Shhhh.... It was a mistake don't tell anyone.

LOL! Don't worry, this will go no further than here...

I just found it interesting as it gave it to me... I didn't change my seat allocation, and was just wondering if anyone else has had it happen to them?

More than likely Qantas have enhanced their software to cater for heavily booked flights at the same time as reducing as much as possible the need for reliance on real people.

This would actually be a deliberate facit of any new Quick Check software. To get your Exit Row Boarding pass, the check in agent must eyeball you to ensure you are likely to be capable of handling the resonsibilities of an exit row in the event of an emergency.

Based on your theory, I as a plebby silver should be able to allocate myself an exit row seat if the flight is heavily booked.

I will test this theory out Sunday SYD-ADL-PER.

Good luck and please let us know how you go :!: :D :D :D :D

I was recently given a default exit row on a Dash 8 through Quickcheck.

Machine bailed out and refused to print my boarding passes exactly as described above. Off I trudged to the counter and was given it.

Flight was only about 1/2 full.

So yes, exit rows can be issued.

Good Luck JohnK at the weekend...

I am just intrigued as too how Quicktrip decides who to put in the exit row?

I noticed on the flight, I was sitting next to another WP! He was in the middle seat though, so I assume he changed over to it, as his sequence number was lower than mine, and I am pretty sure you can't have a middle seat preference in your account.

I guess we will all have to wait a little while until it happens to more of us, so we can work out the rationale behind it...

Once I was flying QF Brisbane - Sydney, I checked in and was given a window seat (not exit row).

When I went to board (which was about 45 minutes later), my boarding pass wouldn't go through the system (it beeped like there was an error). They got on their computers on the gate, and told me my seat had been changed and printed a new bording pass.

When I walked on the plane I was delighted to find it was an exit row. It was a fairly quiet flight (just less than 50% full) - and perhaps they needed someone to be sitting in the exit row.

Didn't bother me though - but would it have killed them to page me at the Qantas club and given me a new boarding pass?

Last Friday I was given an exit row without asking for it.

Thanks.

Don't like my chances of snagging exit row but I will try my best and report back. :D

I always ask for exit rows and always get them. Without fail.

Is that not normal?

How do you know it's an exit row when you're checking in on Quickchek? Do you have to just "know" which row is the exit row in a given plane and ask for that on Quickchek?

Just need to remember the various prime seating positions; do not expect to find the seat available for assignment on Quick Check; to get an exit just speak to a real human being check in agent

Those who like exit rows know where to look and can ascertain the aircraft type from the seat map when using Quick Check. As Dave said, normally you must request one from a check in staff member.

Had an incident last month where QF decided to change my aircaft from a 73H to an 734 at the last minute.

Staff must have simply retained peoples allocated seats down to row 25, then reassigned those in 26-29. This done without reference to exit rows.

There was some consternation around the middle of the aircraft when those who had obtained exit rows for a 73H (Rows 13 & 14) found themselves in normal WHY seats. The PAX in rows 11 & 12 pax had the opposite situation.

I gues it was expedient, but should not have happened. Maybe the FA carrying out the special exit Row Drill was also checking extra hard to ensure the people now in them fit the criteria.

Got to the airport early Sunday morning for flights SYD-ADL and ADL-PER. Used one of the quickcheck booths and was allocated 8C for both flights although I was able to override allocation to 4D for ADL-PER flight. Could not see any seats available for the exit rows on either flight, in fact for SYD-ADL flight I could not see any seats available from rows 4-7.

The flight SYD-ADL was only 1/3 full and there was 7 people seated in the exit rows. Rows 4-7 only had people seated in window & aisle which could possibly suggest WP's with middle seat blocked. ADL-PER flight there was 8 people seated in exit rows.

This morning at Perth airport quickcheck I was allocated 16D for both PER-ADL and ADL-SYD flights, although I managed to upgrade to 15D for SYD-ADL flight and boy what a mistake that was seated behind a professional recliner in a 738. Could not see any seats available in the exit rows. Flights were only 3/4 full. Same story for both flights 8 people seated in the exit rows.

It proves the theory for me that as a plebby silver I cannot allocate an exit row using quickcheck. Didn't bother asking for an exit row so don't know whether I would have got one or not.

I'm here to say that in most normal circumstances, no-one can allocate themselves an exit row seat using Quick check. Quick check will never show these seats as vacant, even to this WP.

The OP had an exit row seat preallocated by Qantas. This was done either by Qantas staff or the computerised preallocation process; He did not choose it. Indeed, Quick Check would not let him print the BP for it. He had to go to the desk.

It all comes down to the process for exit rows of requiring a staff member to visually sight the passenger before issuing a BP for a seat in one.

If you don't ask, it makes it hard to receive.

Well then the staff members making these decisions obviously don't think there will be any problems. Yesterday there were older people sitting in exit rows who look like struggling picking up a 10kg suitcase. Also there was a young boy allocated a seat in an exit row until his father/grandfather came and took him to business class, with the crew's permission, before take off.

I don't like exit rows as such but before boarding I would love to know who reclines so I can ask not to be seated behind one. :(

In that case you want to request the row immediately behind the exit rows on BA's 737s. Their exit row seats do not recline at all.
