Quick & Easy P1 Requalification

If you already had P1 this membership year, couldn't you have used this years travel to get you part of the way to re-qualification rather than doing 3600 SCs all in one hit?

My travel patterns have changed and the foreseeable future doesn't include enough qualifying flight to meet the QF flight # hurdle for P1, and possibly the total points tally either.

for 15K I can buy so many points that will fly me and my +1 in first class for many long haul return trips and when you fly F there is not much meaning to status.

Would be interesting to see the math on how many long haul F flights X 2PAX you will get for your $15k, before facing the gauntlet of availability.

I'm doing it for years now. Once you master the availability of each airline it's not too hard finding seats. Since I'm managing points with few loyalty programs I've never had any issues with availability.

My anniversary date is 30 April, and these flights were taken in the first weeks of my new year. I will have this status for the remainder of this year, plus the next year.

It it has always been my understanding that status remains until the end of the next, full membership year.

Ah, so your recent effort only earned you one years P1, as normal. Up until 30 April 2018 you are operating under your previously earned status. That's clearer.

That's the bit I was missing. Totally clear now ;)

well using Qantas Epiqure as an example, if you were to partake in the Voyager Estate Shiraz ($210 per case of 6) which comes with 7,500 QF Points, you would find yourself with 71 cases and around 660,000 QF points. Which would not be enough for 2PAX F return London/Melbourne (384,000 points return per person)

There are other ways to earn/buy qantas points, so this is merely one illustrative example to put things into perspective.

That is correct, this travel has extended my current P1 beyond 30 April 2018 to include the period of 1 May 2018 to 30 April 2019. The $15000 expense needs to be seen in the context of a 12 month benefit, not 23 months. Thanks for picking it up Bacchus.

In other words, for those at home:
The [current year + 12 months] benefit is only applicable for new qualifications for any level.
Requalification has always been a 12 month benefit for the following membership year. FWIW.

On the other hand, I wonder how many bottles of Dom you missed out on

Congratulations on your recent Status Run.

Must be be quite satisfying knowing "it's in the bag" for the best part of the next 2
years. ;)

everyone has a hobby
I spend almost that much on mine every few years but don't tell Mrs C !

Call it a hobby and its a not unreasonable cost albeit at the upper end!

Congrats! Sounds like my idea of a nightmare but a huge milestone and incredible achievement!

Platinum 1 spent $15K to retain your status? You've obviously got more money and spare time than most people I know. But I'm sorry but Platinum 1 needs professional help......

My sister in law just spent close to $10k on a sewing machine set up. It's whatever floats your boat really. This IS a frequent flyer forum and we are all a bit crazy ;)

LOL I've just ticked up $3k (4 tickets) to see a Broadway show .... I think I need help ;)

My best guess would be 'Hamilton'? The Tonys will be announced soon and getting tickets to the most nominated ones is proving expensive too.

We have tickets to the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in September and we (6 of us) are flying over and making a little holiday around it. We have no other reason to be in the U.K.

the cheapest tickets we could buy for Hamilton were more than $3k for only 3 seats. Some of the resell tickers were US$2000 a seat!

Yep, purchased the day they hit the market.... got the best seats available (not much left:shock:) - orchestra section row N

Well done. I personally don't place any value in status as I fly j or f most of the time so would be interested in how you quantify the value of such status as you fly similar to myself in purely j or f.

Serious question. Even after tax let's assume with round figures it cost 7.5k. Also need to factor in the value of points earned too. Can you quantify the ROI on the investment for us please ?
I'm thinking the compounded value of this expense Over ten years at 10% is close to 20k and I'm being generous there as I achieved over 15% pa on my investments over nine years.

I'm hoping there is some logic to this...

wow - i have been WP1 since inception and it has been great to have ..... but i wouldn''t spend anything like $15k to retain it through status runs

as for Hamilton .... saw it recently as was very disappointed!
