I apologise if this is already answered somewhere, but I am finding the VA/AirNZ divorce to be a bit messy. I recently flew on an SQ ticket as follows: SYD-SIN-BOM, BOM-SIN-AKL. My VFF number was included on the booking and I've received credit for the legs on SQ metal. The SIN-AKL leg was SQ 4281 which is NZ 281; this was flown on 28 Sept. The flight was booked around the first of Sept. I haven't received any credit to my VA account.

Questions:

1) is this correct that I shouldn't get any VA points or status for this leg since it's on AirNZ metal? Does the fact that it was a SQ codeshare influence this?

2) If correct, can I try to credit this leg after the fact to another StarAlliance carrier (I have a United account and may be able to use the points there at some stage). It is a full-fare Y so should be worth some points on any *A carrier. Or is this a problem since originally my VA FF number was provided?

Thanks

The codeshares will not earn, if it's partner airline on partner airline such as this case.

So SQ = must be operated by SQ. NZ = must be operated by NZ. If NZ code but operated by SQ, no dice.

One of the exceptions to this is EY and DL, where flights with those codes but operated by VA will give you points/sc earn.

After the predivorce between VA and Air NZ, about 6/12 months back, you only earn VFF points and SC on Air NZ for trans Tasman flights.
Flying Air NZ from or to NZ from any other country, does not earn anything under VFF.
Eg, if someone flew Air NZ from ADL - AKL, they would earn VFF points and SC, up to end of this month, but if they then flew AKL - LAX on Air NZ with their VFF # in the booking, no earn.
For future reference, and I am doing this, until we are told it cant be done anymore by VFF, as mentioned on here, is to join SQ KF, and amass points in that, then transfer the KF points to VFF in lots of 5,000 KFF points, down to 3,750 VFF points.

You should be able to do this, I certainly did this recently flying SAS, one FF number in booking (star gold to get the benefits), but on zero earn fare so did retro credit to United and came through no problems.

Thanks, will give this a try, have heard varying things about if this is possible but it's worth trying I guess.

This worked great, the points credited immediately to my United MileagePlus account after filling in the necessary information. They aren't premier qualifying (equivalent of status credits) but no matter as I won't be getting status there anyway.
