I'm perilously close to the 35,000 mile (56,330km) limit on a OW RTW award so I need advice on how the distance is calculated for a land segment.

If there are no direct OW-eligible flights between the 2 cities you want to nominate as a land segment (to incorporate them into one stopover), do they use the actual direct distance between those cities or do they calculate it as the distance you would have to fly if you took the shortest route OW-eligible route via an intermediary city?

I don't know for sure but I would say that this clause

14.5.5 Surface Segments are permitted as part of oneworld Award Itineraries, but the distance between the disembarkation point and the next embarkation point will be included in the Award Point zone calculation for that Itinerary.

Would indicate its direct distance between the two.

Yes, I do remember reading that Princess F but for some reason it didn't seem as obvious then as it does now!! Thank you.

Concur ...

I helped relatives use the QFF oneworld award with an open jaw between JNB & FCO - the great circle distance between those two ports was used.

(It was economy)
