Quest into the north-east USA

I’ll be there mid to late July.
She lives right in Mystic and it’s been over 20 years since we have seen her in person.
Only there for a few days as we then head to Chicago and catching the California Zephyr to see if it’s any good
Okay, mere weeks then. We leave Providence for NYC on 30 June.

I am pleased for your 'expenses paid' trip but for me, USA is off the travel list for the foreseeable future. Hope your time is great though. I have a colleague leaving for Boston this week and as she was there this time last year, I (and her) are any changes to the feel of the place from last year. It will be interesting to see your impressions as well.

My phone must be watching my posts. I got a text today about Latitude (28 Degrees) wanting me back. They'll waive the monthly fee for two years apparently. I'll look into it. I liked the card and had it for years, and only cut it free earlier this year due to the monthly fee thing.

Oops, forgot to update this, and we're nearly a month away from our trip! I've since booked some Broadway tickets, our train tickets from Providence to New York and have reached out to some friends who live in/near NYC to see if we can meet up.

I've heard from two friends who recently came back from the States that they are asking more pointed questions at immigration, but I'm hopeful we'll be fine. Perhaps that's my white privilege talking.

One thing I always like to do before a trip is look up fun restaurants that have a theme, but haven't done that for New York yet. If anyone has tips on places to eat, happy to hear them. I am definitely going to have New York style pizza, I figure you can't go there and not have pizza. And maybe bagels, that's quite New York-y right?

Just make sure you have evidence (hardcopy) on hand of your booked accommodation on arrival and hopefully thereafter.

In Mystic is our favourite lobster pound - Abbotts. I have had their LOL lobster roll. It comes with a pound of lobster.
When we were younger we also had a 6 pound lobster each.
Groton is part of the Mystic area and has a nuclear submarine base. It has the US submarine museum and you can tour Nautilus which was the first nuclear submarine in the US.

Thanks for the tips. Both of us don’t eat seafood so I’ll give that a miss but the submarine museum sounds cool.
Still having a few days there but not going via train from Chicago now instead I’m going to do a bit more driving just deciding on where

If you are into Naval museums the biggest in the US is just an hours drive north from Mystic at Falls River. It includes the battleship Massachusetts. Less than 20 minutes drive from Providence.

Thanks, will definitely check that out. We are flying into Boston and picking up the rental car so will definitely give that one a look
