QR withholding award seats from Qantas?

but at the moment it is releasing approximately 0 seats on its LHR flights
I don't think that's true. I picked one up last month (before the apology) for April. I think they release seats in small batches at random times. They obviously sell out quickly so few people get to see them unless they are literally searching every day.

Which for all practical purposes is the same as what I said. If your average Qantas points collectors see no availability to Europe and then logs into VFF and starts seeing options on SQ, QR, EY, etc, Qantas is in big trouble. Customer perceptions can change quick — just look at how the brand has been trashed in less than 12 months.

no Qatar, no Emirates, thats searching every day (lets be honest the search just error 400's past a certain date when they have flights then, this is not a scarcity thing, this is a farcical thing

Their partnership had already been announced a while back...

Just hope they stop blocking QF redemptions soon. Surely they can't be in the One World alliance and do that for too much longer??
QF/QR only have a relationship because of Oneworld requirements. Given QF's partnership with EK it is not surprising. You can't even have DOH as a start/end point on some QFF searches so I would say the restriction comes from QF not QR.

As for comments about QFF availability. A friend is a staff member and when they used to always release a couple of reward seats a year out they are not releasing any in premium cabins that far out. Not a great incentive for having QFF points when premium rewards will only be on partners where there is no guarantee you will actually fly if there is a sched chang.

Looking like QR flights are now open via QF for the ADL to AKL flights
Can see Y and J on the 27SEP22 and lots of J towards the end of October into November
Y = 20000 +$186 J 43800 + 208

That’s a high redemption for such a short flight or is this standard across the industry ?

Well to compare ....

Qantas is cheaper than Velocity !

The same flight for Velocity is 20000 points + 222.02 in Y and 38000 + 412.02 in J

Does this bode well for them resuming their reward seats for the east coast to DOH routes? Or is that still pretty unlikely to happen at this point going forward? Emirates is hardly a great alternative especially with their huge fees now.

not just the fees but EK arent showing any premium cabins past about the first quarter of 2023 when they should be there until about august currently

But what is explanation behind all this ?
It appears behind the scenes somewhere qantas has screwed some kind of pooch, I tried to interest a journalist to get more of the story but heard nothing back from that either. Seems a good number of people in the country stacking up millions of points through various advertised schemes like the ANZ homeloan for points that really arent going to get them much next year unless some things change

This article contains the latest update on Qatar Airways award availability for QFF members:

A clear pattern has emerged. Qantas members now have access to QR award seats up to 249 days in advance for Economy, and 119 days in advance for Business & First Class.

Thanks @AFF Editor . Great detective work.
Sucks both airlines haven't replied to your enquiry though.
Wonder if there was a side agreement between VA and QR on this.

119 days for J availability is a joke unless that is when QR releases the seats itself.
The one thing that I dislike in Aadvantage is that awards are only released at 330 days even for [partner awards that are released by the partner before that. I now use my miles on QF domestic J or premium JL awards. The problem with JAL is very few F awards last until 330 days out.
