Talk about being competitive QR are on the run with J 2 for and Y 3 for 2 can see it all here.

This links is for flights from HK.

There certainly doesn't appear to be 2 for 1 ex-Perth unfortunately when I search direct on the QR website.

You lot beat me, I just signed on to mention this special.:)

As usual the "Australia Tax" applies. However from a Perth point of view the good news is that prices ex-Singapore have dropped from about Sin$5,400 to Sin$2,900. So, a quick cheap flight to Singapore and you can have a nice "cheap" J seat for most of the trip.

EDIT: The above figures were a guesstimate for Sin - Helsinki. Another example is Sin - Barcelona return. Leaving early May and returning just before the 7 June lockout period. For 2 pax Sin$6,842 - for 1 pax Sin$6252.

Got all excited for a while there. Oh well, back to - mmm, other plans.

Yea this got splashed all over social media as 20th anniversary fares but on one I viewed 1 = $6,000. 2 = $11,000. Highly unlikely to pique my interest. 2 4 1

The way to save big $ in J is out of HKG, been doing it for years.

I only noticed this thread yesterday and investigated this sale immediately. I got J for two pax ARN-MEL early June on the "2 for 1 promo" combined with MEL-ARN on "Business Basic" for mid Sep for a total of $6030. I am very happy with that, even though I could not get my preferred dates, just close enough.

Thanks Limewood! And thanks AFF for alerting me to the concept of buying cheaper airfares ex-Northern Europe!

Hi,
I'm interested in more info on how you found this.
I thought the 2 for 1 promo was only for a return flight?
Also, a one-way MEL-ARN seems to be about $10k for 2 people.
Am I missing something?
Cheers,
Gary.

Hi Gary, I searched for ARN-MEL return for 13 June/14 Sep, 2 pax. The page then shows the lowest prices for each of the flights for the week around those dates. You can use the arrow buttons to go "week earlier"/"week later". That way I found the "Business Promo" for the outbound flight (ARN-MEL) for 3, 4 and 5 June at SEK 14k. Do the same for the inbound flight (MEL-ARN) and I found "Business Saver" cheapest on 17 Sep for SEK 24k. Combined price for the return tickets SEK 38958, which hit my credit card at $6030 (BankWest card which doesn't charge foreign exchange fees).

I had looked at these flights a month ago and found them to be about $7800, both ways as "Business Saver". Not bad savings!

Hope this helps.

Aaah - so your flight originated from ARN ?
I can't find any 2 for 1 fares ex Australia (Perth in particular) & was hoping you found a way around this.

Yes, flights originating from OSL or ARN to Australia are much cheaper than the other way around! If you go regularly to Europe you can save a lot of money.

So you could use frequent flyer points one way to Europe and book from the other end.

Even if you didn't use the return ticket, at that price it's exceptional value !

If you use your points to get to Europe you can usually find one-way J fares back to Australia from OSL or ARN in the $2500 to $3000 range on either BA/CX or QR. Google Flights is great for finding the best dates and places. Just make sure to use google.com.au/flights to get the results by default in A$.
