Qpoints/miles flown vs miles earned

I'm of the understanding that Q points are based on earned mileage (including cabin bonus), as opposed to flown mileage. But it's been a long time since I've put flights on AAdvantage so I can't pull up old account statements online to study.

Did a check on aa.com to make sure, and now I'm confused. On the pages for every oneworld partner, it reads 'elite qualifying points per mile earned' but on this page ("+titleText+") it's 'points per qualifying mile flown.'

So - is it points per miles earned on every ow carrier other than AA? Or does 'qualifying mile flown' actually mean mileage earned?

edited to add: Just realised the heading at the top of that url reads 'Qualifying Points per Mile Earned on
American Airlines, American Eagle and AmericanConnection.'

Now I'm really confused. Maybe I'm reading it all too deeply?

For a complete list of eligible fare classes and the equivalent elite points earned on AAdvantage participating carriers, view the following: Aer Lingus (through March 31, 2007), Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, LAN Airlines, Qantas.

For these oneWORLD carrier you simply multiply the "Mileage Accrual Percentage" figure by the "Elite Qualifying Points Per Base Mile Earned" ratio (ignoring ANY "Bonus" ratios) to get the QPoint accrual. Note there is a 500 minimum accrual in these cases. If your booking fare class is not mentioned, NO miles earning or QPoint accrual.

Dave Noble's excellent thread ("AA Platinum Challenge - Tips") has the calculations already done for you.

BTW, I linked to that thread rather than the more contemporary one as it does not have the Qpoint earnings for all AA partners. ("AA Platinum Challenge and mileage earning/burning 2007")

Don't forget you can qualify based on segments. 100 for AA EXP (which is less than what it takes for QF WP when flying only discount economy short flights - 120/140).

Actually - its actually rather achievable now that I've looked at what I'm actually doing. My numerous JQ trips mean I should get QF SG for this year, then I've got that DONE4 sometime end of year/next year which should get me up to Plat at least at the beginning of next year. So I've still got the rest of next year to get EXP. And in the meantime use SG for domestic USA lounge access.

Oh - that's an entirely separate itinerary. Got I class seats on the SQ232/221 rotation post Oct 07.

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me clarify a couple of things with the Platinum challenge.

I started the AA challenge on 16 December with my first flight on 16 Dec (SYD>SHANGHAI). The points and miles posted in January 07.

My second flight was around 16 January (HKD>SYD). The points and miles posted in February.

The total points for the two flights are 6857 and show for this year (2007):
YTD Elite Qualifying Points:6,857

I intend to have a return flight to BKK returning on 15 March, which should provide more than 3200 points that I need.

Question 1: Is the Platinum challenge for 3 months or 90 days? Will it be OK for my last flight on 15 March?

Question 2: Do the points count on the date that the flight was flown or the date the points are posted. I would usually think the date the flight was flown, but from the way my points are shown on the AA website, it shows my flight in December counting in this years to date balance.

I am pretty certain that you will be ok on the 15th March as being the last day of the challenge
