I am flying EK J Sydney to Prague in a month. Currently I am a skywards blue, and QP member.

At check in, is it enough to show my QP card to get the higher baggage limit while keeping my skywards number for the points? Or would they change to my QP number?

If they happened to change my ff number could I change it back to my skywards number at the lounge?

It should be enough, just be very clear what you want and don't leave the check-in desk with a BP that has your QP details on it ;)

If EK give whY pax 30kg wouldn't you get 40kg in J? How much stuff will you be checking in?

Please report back. I'd be interested to know whether or not the check-in agent insists you travel under the same FF number that provides you with the benefits you're wanting to avail yourself of.

Yeah you do get 40kg in J (QP adds an extra 12kg). I study in Prague, hence I am there for the majority of the year so even 40kg is not enough. Basically every year I do have to send a bag through unaccompanied baggage, and since I was in J and have QP, that was something I wanted to avoid this year.

I did the trip last week and at check-in they did use my QP number to check the bags in.

I think the key detail I probably did skip in my original question was that I did want to keep the skywards number as I would move up a tier at the end of my journey.

In that case I would follow Danger's advice & hand over your QP card when you check in the bags then when in the EK lounge get them to enter your EK SW number in the system.

I haven't done the EK/QF scenario however I've flown on a US marketed flight (UA metal) where the US DM ffn was in the pnr & the UA CSA took it out to enter the TK *A Gold ffn for the free baggage allowance.

Once the bag tags were issued she put the US DM ffn nbr back in again so the points could be credited to US.
