QF's Asia announcement

Qantas does the bird to Perth.....again!

FFS, Qantas you are really starting to become a joke! How can you not be making money off Perth flights??????? Singapore Airlines manages 4 flights a day in and out of Perth (though they do have connections) but JQ Asia also is based there so you would think you could offer people that option.

CX manages 2 flights a day into Perth yet now you have decided you can't even offer one or on your booking system a direct flight, we now have to fly 4 hrs over east then fly to HKG....what drugs are you on?

You cut Japan during the earthquake and tsunamis, fair enough.......but guess what it never returned, why? It must have been making money as it was the only direct flight to Japan from Perth! Oh but hang on you were using the worst Aircraft in the entire fleet to operate it! We lost the QF JNB Service that used to stop on the way now stuck with SAA instead.

Why bother even making an effort?? You may as well drop the only international flight left out of Perth and give up and go back over east and let the Asian/Middle Eastern Carriers take over.

Now this paves the way for VA to introduce some Asian flying out of Perth.....First route PER-HKG and maybe operate one of the 4 dailys to Singaport for SQ and a Tokyo flight would do alright too.

What an absolute shambles, there is no excuse for QF not being able to make money out of Perth except mismanagement.

Pilotdude.
Consider SQ vs QF on.
Plane costs - Sing depreciation vs Aus depreciation
Landing/airport charges - Sing govt owned vs Aussie privatised
Mechanical/ maintenance - Sing/elsewhwere vs Aus highly unionised
FAs/ Pilots - As above
Connections - Flying to SIN your hub vs flying to a port where an LCC is your only real friend
Fuel - The same
When customers pretty much flock to the cheapest flights possible, if you dont have costs that are in line with your competitors it is very difficult to make a profit...

I unfortunately forsee a future where QFi will only fly to the UK and US. It will take some time, but that is the reality of an industry that operates on very small margins and your major assets (the planes) are extremely mobile.

Not happy at all on terminating PER-HKG flights and leaving now only CX running the direct flight, which the economy seat is terrible!!!!

Transit through SIN waste time on both way to and from HKG. It was so convenient through HKG to my other destinations, e.g. China, Taiwan, Japan, etc.

It appear that confidence has been dramatically diminished for Qantas product in general as a result of these announcements..
What 'sweetener" will they now try to sprinkle over the pessimists?

I've just logged onto my booking for QF 29 and its asking me to confirm the changes : as I don't own a time machine I'll probably pass

I think there is only worse to come. In particular the change to the FF program which says they only need to give three monnth's notice (down from the previous 6 month's) for negative changes. I expect once that rule comes in we'll be hit with a whole raft of changes that they don't want people having 6 months to cash out under the current rules.

Just reived a e-mail saying my flight Perth- Kongkong ret in Aug is now cancelled now have to go via Syd, instead of 7hrs now 17, to say sorry they are giving me 8000pts for compo, NOT happy, why cant they bump me up for free, no way, dead easy to give 8000pts away, cant they put me on CX or am I being too grumppy?!

haha! Seems Qantas is now the reason you fly... and fly, and fly and fly... !

We've had emails about flight times being changed but this will involve two different flights so I'd be thinking a phone call. Just hope we keep J seats for no extra cost than we've already paid.

They have very little choice but to keep you in J for the same cost. You have a booking.

If CX were to change to an earlier departure time ADL-HKG, thus allowing me to connect to their HKG-BKK flight, I'd jump ship instantly!!!! :)

Not a fan of morning departures to Asia so this is a bit frustrating. Not to mention being on an older product in most cases.

For me, QF is now a long way down the list of options for flying into Asia.

Make sure they don't take one of your loyalty bonus'

I think you are forgetting that this is an improvement, the chance to experience MORE Qantas.

Nothing for us yet and our flights are August too.

Hope you're right medhead but the flyer said "subject to availability".

Yes, the soon to be ADL-SYD-BKK connection is *extremely* tight. (Thought they advised at least 90 minutes for connections - I'll be lucky to get an hour now.)

bobe,
I am sure Qantas has plenty of room in the front of the plane, to bump up everyone in the back...

As I recall one of the options was the red rat to sin then Cathay to Hong Kong. That may be an option to consider.
