QFF Restuarants Disappearing?

Was on the Qantas website last night looking at the Restaurants section.

To my suprise, Melbourne has only 21 restaurants, and Sydney was somewhere in the 30's. If my memory serves me correctly in around Feb-Mar this year, MEL had about 50-60odd whilst SYD had around 70. Quite a few of the places I have eaten at in the past are no longer in the database.

Maybe I searched incorrectly, but has anyone else noticed restaurants dropping out of the shceme? I always thought it was a great way to earn some extra points

I'm not sure what you are looking at...the list for Melbourne still shows 65 restaurants, about the same as there has always been. Are you inadvertently specifying some additional selection criteria?

I have noticed one of the little restuarants I'd visit in the Sydney CBD has taken down their QF FF points sign.

If you enter Melbourne as the "suburb/city" it does not look up melbourne as a city, it is looking up Melbourne as in post code 3000 and it's surrounding suburbs, which has 21 restaurants. It looks like it only looks at Melbourne plus directly adjacent suburbs. If you change the search criteria to just Victoria you will get 65 and most of those are in Melbourne, if not all.

Victoria is not just Melbourne, you know! There are some very good restaurants in regional Victoria that specialise in seafood and potato, Chinese dining like nowhere else, and some world-class establishments offering fine Scottish cuisine, apparently popular with all ages.

Well, I'm happy to agree that there may be good restaurants in regional Victoria. However, out of the 65 restaurants listed on the Qantas website for Victoria where you can earn QFF points there is just one that I could see that is not in Melbourne, and that is in Bendigo.

I wonder if the same deal applies throughout Australia? QFF points mainly available in capitals, not because of the quality of food offered but because of the concentration of frequent flyers?

Incidentally, what's your take on the best restaurant in Canberra? I'm beginning to sense a shift away from Aubergine.

Depends how widely you define Melbourne. They are certainly in the Melbourne metropolitan area, but it seems reasonable to restrict it to the actual city the way they have.

I know that Club India in Brisbane has disappeared, yet it still appears on QFF Restaurants page.

I went to Taj Mahal in New Farm/Valley two days ago (yes, they are "on the list"). Flashed my QFF card but no one including the manager knew how to process me for points. I called QF and they told me I best keep a receipt and talk to QFF on Monday (business hours). Apparently I was the first customer to ever come to the restaurant and request the points.

So it may not be that restaurants are disappearing but a lot of wet ears and perhaps miscommunication from QFF as to how the rewards process is meant to work.

I went to one of the Indian chains on the Gold Coast and the lady knew exactly what to do, but was a bit disgruntled to have to serve me at all, in the restaurant that was completely empty of people.

Points showed up reasonably quickly too.

It’s a shame though that they haven’t really expanded the list very much. It would be great if the QFFP became more like the MPC in Hong Kong, but they seem to have stalled on this front.

My one and only dining experience at a QF retsaurant was at Mand's Indian Restaurant @ Eastwood Sydney Restaurant Review and Information and it was just as the restaurant list came out. The place had a nice new "QF points available here" sign on the o****er and was smooth to get the card swiped through. Points however took about 10 weeks to come through.

Haven't eaten at any other of the restaurants on the list, should really try a few more of them.
