QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

I was able to get
  • QF79 MEL-NRT Dec 25 Business
  • QF26 HND-SYD Jan 5 Business
released with no issues. The surrounding dates (Dec 22, 23, 26, Jan 3, 4) were also available. Both were showing I1 on ExpertFlyer.

On the website there were zero Classic Rewards available for this time period in any class of travel (even Economy), so it was a pretty use of the benefit to get these released over the Christmas period.

I think points are increasing in price factor it
Got told by the Hobart Rep that if you do manage to get a ticket booked before the end of the month, unless you change your route entirely, you only pay the change fee points, and either pay or get refunded the class you will now be flying instead.

Of course this is just 1 DP but hope others may have had this confirmation as well.

This was already explained in the other thread:

You have until 4 August 2025.

LAX-BNE both I9 ,both Biz sale 22 and 23 August 2025 - both rejected.
PER-BNE 18 February 2026 all D7- D9. Flights requested with after 1300 hr departure , agent says all "fully booked " so no go .

DPO-MEL-SYD in Y on 5th Sept, returning on 7th Sept - www was only offering classic+ seats but Hobart call centre + bot released all four flights I wanted to classic reward - happy with that.

I called yesterday to request seats. Had a very casual discussion with a very experienced Hobart agent (22 years).

When it came to putting in the request, I was told that I could not request the seats as I did not have sufficient points in my account (I only had around ~1k, I was going to transfer whatever I needed in from Amex).

I mentioned that I had no issue releasing 2 U awards between LAX-SYD last week with only ~80k points in my account at the time of request (which is short of the ~216k required). I transferred the remaining points needed into my account after the request was successful and then asked them to ticket the booking.

He told me that there was a back door way that experienced agents could raise a request if there is at least enough points for the cheapest QF award (so 8,000 per passenger), but ideally the requestor should have the full amount required before requesting.

Has anyone heard of this before?
Tried again today and clearly got the same person…

He was very helpful and now I had 30k points in my account, he still ran the request (even though he kept reminding me I really needed the total amount).

Anyway it didn’t matter, requested 14 different flights between Australia and North America just after Christmas that all had between I7 and I9 and all were declined.

QF33 showing D9, rejected. (never been able to get this released)
I believe the international legs of flights are embargoed from requests. At least that is according to something madrooster has posted here in the past.
