I've just had something weird happen. I googled Qantas to get the link to make a booking. The usual links to Qantas displayed. However, at the end, there was a message:
..........................................

Photo (see below) Your Frequent Flyer Number

Only you can see this number

(series of 13 numbers )

Is this helpful. Yes / No
...................................................

The number bears no relationship to my FF number (thank goodness). My Gmail was open, and the photo that displayed at the beginning of the message is one that is only linked to my gmail acount that is in my Qantas account.

I called Qantas FF, but they couldn't shed any light, and she asked if it could be a booking reference. However, I have no current bookings. So she referred to their IT department who will "call me back".

I'm on a standalone Acer XP laptop, running Firefox. NBN phone network.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It's a Google thing. Tries to interpret and be helpful about stuff in your Gmail account.

Qantas probably don't know anything about it.

Nothing to do with your laptop, browser, Qantas or internet connection. Has everything to do with Gmail and your emails in your Gmail account.

Fairly certain TheInsider is right.
Last year i remember searching google while on holidays for my upcoming flight number. I think my booking pnr and flight details came up in the results.
Some airlines including QF have the "save to calendar" feature which perhaps makes it easier for Google to scrape the information from your email.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

A couple of years ago my gmail account was locked due to my access attempts while overseas. Ironically, google knew I was overseas and even which city I was in on that date, because it had automatically parsed my emails without my knowledge and accurately populated the calendar with flight bookings. Of course that didn't prevent the lockout.

There's obviously some big data sitting behind this feature. I would add that flight delays and gate changes often get pushed through quicker than the Qantas app.
