Pretty sure in their last market update they've now passed 8 mil members

Yes, but of those, how many million are members via some other avenue (eg Woolies card or credit card with free m'ship)?

I wouldn't be surprised if QF had the 80:20 rule - 80% revenue from 20% of its pax.

I read somewhere that there are around 5000-7000 CL's.
More CL's than WP1's. (I could be wrong).

I thought those figures for CL were too low. But it seems they are about right, I found an investor briefing from Qantas from November 2010 that does say "... Invitation only, restricted to 7,000 members".

Quite interesting that there seem to be about twice as many CL members than P1. Of course there are also those who are both, at a guess I would say 100 people would be both.

Someone mentioned this recently on AFF and l was puzzled.
How can you be CL and WP1 at once?
Wouldn't you one or the other?

A CL member who travels alot can reach P1, hence having both, a la bossreggie

CL is something given not based on how many flights you’ve done. It’s based on spend or your companies spend.

While P1 has to be earned through flying, so if you’ve earned P1 by flying all over and Qantas thinks highly enough of you to give you CL status, you’re in a very good position.

CL is not a membership level - it is possible to be CL without being a member of Qantas Frequent Flyer. Like the QP, it is a "club" (though you must be invited to become a member and there is no fee).

WP1 is a membership level; you must be a QFF member, and the WP1 status is attained by status credits from miles flown, just like PS, SG, WP.

Thus it is absolutely possible to be both WP1 and CL.

So, a CL can therefore be either a; CL NB, CL Silver, CL SG, CL WP, CL WP1 or just CL CL???
I thought that once you got CL, SC's were irrelevant because CL's had to be personally signed off by Leigh Clifford.

Wouldn't a CL still need a QF FF number to be able to check in online, select seats etc etc etc?

You learn something new everyday. Cheers Sam

I've always assumed a CL automatically gets OE Emerald status. Can someone confirm this for a case of. CL NB who does very little time flying.

I would take any stats from there with a very large grain of salt. That is probably the kindest way I could put it.

I did post that the numbers will obviously be geared more towards the top end of the scale, but if enough lurkers get involved in just the poll, the numbers could change dramatically. Don’t be so quick to chastise.

Some people are glass half full and some are glass half empty :!: That is probably the kindest way I can put it.

One of my customers is a CL. If he wasn't a CL he would likely be SG as most of his overseas travel is not with OW. His CL card has the Emerald symbol similar to the WP card. If I remember correctly the service information section on his Qantas boarding passes is "CL EMERALD QF1234567"

In the past (there was a post in an old thread here) it was noted you could be CL (as in QP) and then have a different status altogether. However these days it appears that CL grants OWE. At least I’ve never seen a CL card with a Sapphire or Ruby symbol.

My inference was that the sample size, demographic and lack of verification were serious limitations. For example I aspire to be CL P1 but probably shouldn't have actually voted that way! Capiche?

Sample size is not really issue if you can get more than about a couple of hundred votes. Demographics, when that's another issue.
