QFF Dining program dead from Aug 12

If you have a Citibank credit card, most of the restaurants on the QFF program alternatively offer the Citibank Dining free bottle of wine... I suggest using that offer instead.

Instead? Sacrilege! You can use both!

Qantas killed it by being too greedy and charging the restaurants too much. Maybe we will see it relaunched under another guise though...
Make it like AA where it's based on linking to your CC as well, so no work for the restaurants ("oh our machine is broken").

AAdvantage Dining is great. Register your CC (US CC) with it, and it'll let you have a list of restaurants where you receive bonus AAdvantage miles. 1 per dollar if you are just registered, 3 per dollar if you're registered and accept their spam (just marketing and only 1-2 emails a month) and 5 if you dine frequently.

Shame it doesn't work with AU cards, but something like that here would be excellent.

Little disappointed with this decision, but not surprised. Admittedly all the places I have gone to that offered points I would go to anyway, the points themselves were just a bonus and not a deciding factor as to whether I should go there or not.

It was a nice bonus for going out to eat and drink at not only the regular spots that offered it but for me it was also an incentive when I was looking for somewhere new to dine. I never had a problem with the restaurants processing the paperwork or later receiving the points. Another negative enhancement !!

This program has been dying for well over a year now if not longer

It costs the restaurant too much to be involved and everytime someone swipes their card

Restaurants are struggling to make $ as it is, let alone giving away 4-8% when someone gives them their FF card

Also, with all the advertising (QFF logos/stickers etc) people who were already there would simply give their card and earn points. So it was not bringing in many new customers, so the cost of "marketing" was not actually bringing in additional revenue.

I have also found quite a few restaurants (mid level) stopping taking Amex as well lately :(

Times are tough and will get tougher over the next months/years as our economy continues to collapse

Thanks for wasting all the $$ Julia and Rudd

At some places you could (Golden Century in Sydney as an example) but others (Din Tai Fung) would refuse and say one or the other based on my experience.

A pity, as this has yielded me many thousands of points over the years, although the number and quality of restaurants has declined recently.

As several of you have speculated, I suspect the driver has been the ever reducing number of restaurants participating, especially given the large cost per point charged by QF.

That would be awesome, but you could be waiting a while...

In fact, it would be much quickler to apply for a green card (the slow way) and then move there :P

Shame to see it in the statement.

As has been pointed out though, it was dying. The few details shared here suggested Qantas was charging too much for points and the restaurants obviously didn't see much value in that. It's a real shame though, reducing costs, adding restaurants and integrating with with the CASH card as well as epiQure could have been an attractive deal.

I think I used it twice, once receiving points, the next time not.

Disappointed to see this disappear. My favourite restaurant was part of the scheme and I earned a lot of points there. Staff understood the scheme, their machine always worked and the points always posted promptly, the extra point for Epicure membership was an extra bonus. They are also part of the Citibank dining program, so I will now start to use my Citibank card instead.

Separate e-mail on this has gone out. Retrospective claims will be processed until the 12th of February 2014.

No more FF with Qantas at Partner Restaurants

Yes another Qantas enhancement indeed

I did use it for a couple of good restaurants in Sydney so it was nice - although there was never much choice...

Did anyone else notice the new email address, and notably the new domain name? There is now website at the new domain name (yet).
Remember, if you would like to claim missing points from a transaction with a partner restaurant prior to 12 August 2013, you can by emailing [email protected].

Yes, I did, LOL

I was assuming it was a mistake given it looks like that domain is parked currently.

Just saw this email too. It was quite the unloved program and for me tended to take a back seat in comparison to Entertainment Book discounts.

I've only used this once, but we were able to get our points and use my Entertainment book discount.

Considering there is no mail server associated with 'frequentflyer.com' (aka no MX record) I don't see how this will do them much good.

It does have an A record which is 'hosted' in Atlanta, GA.

I think it's probably a typo...

(the whois record for frequentflyer.com is 'private' so that's not viewable).

Seems like a strange type though. Maybe they meant qantasfrequentflyer.com.au, but who really knows.

I imagine emails sent to that address would just come back...

It found the A record for it and sent it to that. I should get an email in a few hours with 'UNABLE TO DELIVER FOR THE PAST X HOURS'.
