I'm wondering if anyone has experience on the availability of awards on AA flights such as GIG-MIA or GIG-NYC ? GIG is not listed on the website so is it a phone job and what are my chances? It's too early yet but am looking for J in November next year after a cruise.

Checked on the AA site for August next year-AA only releases inventory 11 months out.Very little sAAver awards(but this is a recent AA enhancement!).However for GIG-MIA or JFK there were at least 3 AAnytime awards in J every day of the 4 weeks leading up to the last day available so I guess there should be a QF award available.

Thanks Ron. Good to know. Not familiar with how AA anytime awards might translate to QF classic awards. Is it generally the same stock?

In the past if there were sAAver awards there would definitely be QFF classic awards. However in recent months AA have made sAAver awards quite a deal less available. However seeing multip;e AAnytime awards certainly suggests QFF awards would be available.

I had a similar situation last year trying to book QFF award flights on AA from PHX - DFW. PHX did not show on the QFF search page for award bookings but showed up every where else. The only way I could book was to phone QF and take the points hit. The person I spoke to would not relent on that one. Funnily enough it appeared on the booking page a few weeks after I complained in writing. I think you have the same situation. There was no issues with availability of award seating over the phone though.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Raising this again for completeness. I'm now at about the time I can make bookings GIG-MIA for next November but no joy sadly. According to the QF premium desk there is little or no business class availability on any dates. This correlates to the lack of U availability on AA that I can see on EF. The AAnytime awards on AA, and there are usually 7 per day on AA according to EF, do not translate to any availability on QFF. There is some availability in economy award classes. Nor is there any possibility of QF asking AA to release J seats.

There does appear to be some business class availability on LAN GIG-SCL-MIA at 92K plus phone fee. :(

AAnytime awards book into the F, J & Y fare buckets; so one can generally always book these using AAdvantage miles. (Yes, that's right, the "FULL" fare buckets.) So they are really not a good guide as Qantas won't let you book a classic award into these buckets.

You need SAAver availability; these book into Z, U & T respectively.
