Hi all,

new to this forum, couldn't really find a good answer myself, so don't hit me if my search wasn't well enough ;)

I'm going on QF93 (Economy) next Monday and would have enough points to request an upgrade to Business. Just wondering if I should do that or just ask at the Gate or when boarding?

Not really sure about the best way to do it with Qantas on US flights.

Thanks for any hints.

I'm QFF Silver by the way.

Cheers
David

the upgrade process is fully automated for international so there's no option to ask at the gate.

submit it online asap and check the option for "upgrade at the gate" this will ensure if any seats are left by the time of boarding you will be considered by the system to be upgraded as you board. (This is likely to be your experience if successful given your status is only Silver - higher status members will score the upgrades prior to the day).

good luck!

You will need to register ahead of time for a Classic Upgrade Reward. Here's how:

https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dy...jetstar#international-classic-upgrade-rewards

FYI - QF93 on 14SEP is already quite heavily booked in both Premium Economy and Business. However it doesn't cost to register, and Qantas Points only deducted if your request is successful.

Request online. You tend to find out 1-2 days before departure. Why risk at the gate?

That said depends on the ppl who are requesting upgrade who are higher in status.

I would check business class availability on seat guru and use that as my proxy for availability

Hmmm....how do I say this politely?

Don't request, darn it!!, as I already have a request in...;)

Just kidding!

Well, I do have a request in, but very unlikely to succeed anyway. And yes, follow the advice above.

As Red Roo said, its quite heavily booked. And with silver status, your chances are minimal. But, you don't lose the points if unsuccessful, so give it a shot, never know? Can't quite figure out why its so heavy? I know it's a premium route for QF, a la to LHR, but given the $AUD and not really peak time? Not sure.

Edit: happy to share a drink pre-flight in the QP and share our mutual disappointment...lol...cheers David

You are very philosophical and therefore will be a happy traveller !!!

Always understated I am. Thanks Spruce.

Hope for the free, but work for premium! And not too much will disappoint you in life. As hope is always free.

Just curious - roughly what % of the J cabin is paid vs. upgraded? Would also be interested to know the same for Y+.

Given that loads in J are pretty heavy on premium routes more than 7 days out I'd say the paid percentage in J is high on those routes QF1/2/11/12 less so ex-MEL IME.

I don't book or travel Y+ but would imagine it's similar.

As others have said the load on this flight is very full, so you would be very lucky to get an upgrade.

I am on this flight that day if anyone is needing lounge access :)

There's always hope. I'm currently sitting in the BA Galleries Lounge at JFK after getting upgraded on tonights QF18 and I'm also a lowly silver. :) I was also upgraded from PE to J on QF93 and QF 128 earlier in the year. :) There's always hope!
