I am flying Y and I am hoping for a blocked seat between me and the boy so we could have a bit more room.

For last minute FF member bookings and to ensure flexibility to seat family/groups together.

A "blocked" seat is one that has not yet been allocated but us not available for selection by passengers at this time. So any seats currently allocated to you would not be marked as blocked.

Looks like a very good flight to have a business class points upgrade request lodged - ie likelihood of upgrade clearing is high!

Don't rely on seat blocking in economy - I have had it done at checkin only to discover someone else appearing in the middle. The block can be unblocked if seat is needed!

MelUser, I wish my fare was upgradable. My colleague got upgraded this morning on QF11 (on points). Though he's quite peeved that it's a 747 not a 380.

This is a common sight less than 80 hours before a flight (yes, even international) .

It's is almost certain those blocked seats have already been assigned to specific PAX. When they check in their blocked seat would change to allocated.

I am on the same flight a few days later then the OP.
I'm only a QFF bronze, so have to wait until T24 until online check in opens.

How accurate would the seat maps be at T25 or even T23?

Trying to work out what time would be best to check in and select seats.

If checking in at the airport, would the check-in staff mind me requesting a specific seat, if they were to provide me a verbal list of available window or aisle seats (for example)?

I am on QF93 on Saturday 07 August and was wondering if someone could tell me how full the flight is in economy and whether 53J is blocked or allocated. I took the gamble of seating myself in 53K and my partner in 53H as neither of us wanted to sit in the middle, but it doesn't sound like there will be too many empty seats. Being WP I've got my fingers crossed for an upgrade otherwise if there is someone sitting in the middle of us I'll see if they want to swap for the window seat.

It's not really a gamble, there are very few people who prefer middle seats and the poor thing that gets stuck in between you will be more than happy to swap I would suggest!

I use this 'trick' all the time when travelling in a pair.

Hi ads, my partner is a Bronze also, but he could select his seats at around T-40. However, his booking is also in my account (my points) hence I am not sure if my status has anything to do with his ability to select seats. Maybe you can just check?
