Mrs Revenge and I are booked on a flight to Canada with United via LAX on 25 September. I was just browsing flights on the Qantas website and saw that Qantas is selling tickets for QF75 SYD-YVR direct on 20 September. We would much prefer to go direct than to go via the US as we will be travelling with a 16-month-old.

Do you think this Qantas flight looks legit/viable? I'm guessing its a positioning flight for a DFAT repatriation flight? On ExpertFlyer I can see that most seats in J are blocked, presumably to carry crew to YVR for the flight back.

Finally, the cheapest fare on the Qantas website is a saver economy fare, which looks like it will earn points and SCs. I thought I remembered readings somewhere that the positioning flights for the repatriation flights weren't points earning?

I appreciate any isnight this forum might be able to provide.

Thanks

Well it is showing in EF and some few J and Y (no W) seats are allocated... it's probably going to return as a repat flight perhaps or something like that.

If QF are selling seats I don't see why you can't book and fly on it.

Presumably you're up to speed with the Canadian entry requirements: Who can come to Canada.

Flight information

We’ll be operating the following flight:
  • QF75, departing Sydney at 9.35pm on 20 September, arriving Vancouver at 6.25pm on 20 September 2021.
Services on these flights will be significantly reduced, including the following:

  • Limited onboard food and bottles of water. Should you wish to bring food and non-alcoholic drinks for your flight, you’re welcome to do so. Note: as galley storage space is restricted, items you bring will need to be stored in your carry-on baggage. Drinks you choose to bring will also need to comply with any powders, liquids, aerosols and gels screening requirements where applicable.
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer benefits (including Status Credits, Qantas Points, additional baggage allowances and the option to upgrade with points) will not apply.

Still, beats flying via LAX!

Thanks for digging this up for me!

Interesting that they say "Qantas Frequent Flyer benefits (including Status Credits, Qantas Points, additional baggage allowances and the option to upgrade with points) will not apply" while on the booking screen fare details it says the opposite. That's not really fair on people who book on the website without seeing this note.
