Hi all,

I'm off to SFO on Saturday via SYD, and only just got PS status this week (hooray!).

This is my first experience doing advanced seat selection before OLCI, and I'm wondering exactly how the seating on this 747-400 works. I'm in economy, and selected seat 38K, but from all seating maps I've been able to see, rows 36 - 39 are listed as Premium Economy seats.

So from what I can see after reading some posts on here, that you get to sit in whY+ but receive whY service, is this still the case? I'd still be over the moon with that, given I'm 6'3 and on the heavier side of life, so any additional leg room would rock given my knees always touch the sit in front.

Check out the configuration you see for row 38.

If it's 2x4x2 then they are PE seats. If 3x4x3 then standard WHY seats.

Yes, it's PE.

It's a 4 class aircraft operating a 3 class service. Some J has F seats, some Y+ has J seats and so on.

Are you sure you're still in 38K though? I just checked the seatmap and that seat is showing as open for me.

I swapped to 37B ;)

I had read somewhere that the 2-4-2 configuration on the 747 for Y meant the B or J seat was not an aisle seat, but when I realised they were PE seats I swapped it for an aisle seat.

Wise choice moving to the left side. Normally it's a Runway 28 morning approach into SFO, so this seat should give you a great view of the Peninsula and Bay as you line up. SF has been having a heatwave so hopefully it will be a clear day for views.

Yup, it's nice if you can get it! The last time I did this route was July and the front half of the Premium Economy seating was still being used for PE service.

That's how the re-definition works. Front rows of Y+ get Y+ service, back few rows of J are actually sold as Y+ and also get Y+ service. The front rows of J and Zone A (or what would be F) as well as upstairs get regular J service.

I was fortunate enough to be op-up'd on QF73 in OCT last year to J seat with Y+ service (From Y+ seat with Y service). Here's hoping I get it again next month (although i'll be happy with a Y+ seat alone).

In January, I was op-upped from Y in a PE seat to Y+ and was able to grab a Skybed LAX-MEL! :p
