I think this is just a money grab, where a law firm wants in on some action.
It does seem especially that way as the firm is in Chicago and the accident happened between Singapore and Perth… there should be laws to stop these lawyers doing this (other than if they really were acting on behalf of some clients).

Are you sure about the Qantas part? I understood it was against Airbus and Northrop Grumman. The ADIRS on the aircraft was manufactured by Northrup Grumman. The ADIRS is thought to have issued the pitch down commands. The lawsuit is being brought against Qantas and Northrup Grumman - hence the reason for US based lawyers.

It is (according to the complaint)
AIRBUS S.A.S.,
EPOCH SOFTWARE SYSTEMS,INC.,
MOTOROLA, INC.,
NORTHROP GRUMMAN COMPANY,
NG SYSTEMS CORPORATION,
NORTHROP GRUMMAN LITTON SYSTEMS, INC.,
DUPONT CO.,
JUDD WIRE CO., and
RAYCHEM CO.,
Good to see the possibility of some sensible action here - against the manufacturers rather than against the airline which flew the manufacturers product. A previous thread here showed little to no support for action against Qantas ....
Will they need the Qantas crew to testify, and do you think Qantas is likely to play ball and let them?
Full index and links to reports from ATSB on incidents involving this aircraft can be found at:Part of the article states that VH-QPA had an ADIRU incident August this year. Does anybody have a link or reference to this incident, or is it a lawyer trying add gloss to a case?

The specific report in question is available from:
AO-2008-070
A preliminary report was issued on 14 Nov 2008, and interim factual reports on 6 Mar 2009 and again in November 2009. No further reports have been issued since.
I can't find anything noted on the ATSB website yet, but I may not be looking hard enough as the last weekly summary I can find is for mid-AugustPerthnow said:He said the problems were still not fixed. “In August this year, this very same aircraft experienced another ADIRU malfunction while landing at Sydney.“
