QF64 J Seating Choice for non status passenger

Hello everyone. I'm flying JNB-SYD on QF64 in May 2015 along with my mother. The current seat map shows it is an older style 4 class configured aircraft (which may change in the future....). I have no status with Qantas and am wanting some feedback on possible seating choices in the J class cabins.

I was set on the upper deck (I am able to select 17 J & K), but as it is an overnight flight I am put off by the angled lie flat Skybed Mark1 seats. I am also able to select 4 E & F with the older style first class seats (which apparently lie flat). Has anyone had any personal experience with either of these possible seat choices and could give me some feedback? Many thanks!

4E/F are fine seat indeed being the old First Class. Personally, I'd grab 3E/F if they are available. This would be in case they revert to a three class configuration where 4E/F do not exist and 3E/F are quite good lay flat 180° and parallel with the floor Skybed Mk II -these particular seats have their own dedicated storage.

Thank you very much for the advice. 3 E&F are not available for me to select (I suspect because I have no status with Qantas). I might take the risk and select 4 E & F and keep monitoring if any other seats open up to me as available. Decisions, decisions!

I do this flight at least twice a year, 4 E and F are great if you travelling with a partner, Just keep checking the QF online seat map, I have had a plane change 3 days before a flight and lost the seats I wanted. Also upper deck emergency exit rows (16) are also a good option

That puts my mind at rest (first world problems hey!). I tend to be a bit obsessive about planning things, checking and rechecking things so I'll definetly keep an eye on the seat maps. Thanks again to both of you.
