Hello all you super insightful flight enthusiasts,

I am travelling on QF5 from Sydney to Singapore this Sunday in Economy. Plane is currently showing as a 744 so I have selected seats 70j/70k for myself and my wife (we are heading off on our honeymoon). I booked these seats months ago but checking today there seems to be several whole centre rows of 4 completely empty and most outer rows of 3 from 59 back also empty. Looking on expert flyer shows around half these available and half blocked for me (QPNB). Trying to decide if I should try for one of the outer rows of 3 window and aisle seat and hope no-one gets put between us or if I keep to the 2 up seating. Unfortunately I can't upgrade these tickets due to them being discount economy so unless I get an op/up I am stuck down the back.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am thinking when I check-in in Adelaide I will just ask them and maybe again when I get to the lounge in Sydney? Don't really want to have a stranger between us!

Thanks in advance.

Seat maps are never reliable when it comes to gauging how busy a flight is, while currently the seat buckets indicate a light load, that can still mean just 30-50 seats free and yield are not expecting them to be sold, I would stay where you are and move after take off if in fact seating is wide open.

Absolutely true. 16 hours ago my QF flight looks like it was very light load. All cabins showing just a spattering of assigned seats. When I checked again about 2 hours before departure, J is completely assigned (100%), PE is completely assigned (100%) and Y is showing about 40 unassigned seats, mostly middles with a small number of aisles or windows showing blocked.

I note that you've picked similar seating arrangements for your return flight from Singapore. As you know, there are still plenty of seating options available on both your international flights. Feel free to move to the spare seats once the seatbelt sign is switched off.

Have a great time on your honeymoon, and please don't hesitate to let the ground staff and cabin crew know if there's anything they can do to make your journey more comfortable and relaxing. :)

Thanks Red Roo. I am looking forward to checking out the singapore qantas lounge!

I hope your next QF flight is lightly loaded as well but something tells me it is going to be a little heavy around the middle. ;)
