Pity. Given emirates fly into oz. you would think with an "open sky policy" it would be a great middle point for Europe.

[Hmmmm. Two of my posts turned into threads in their own rights in two days. There goes my penchant for avoiding creating threads!]

well Stephen Fry hasn't had a great week of flying with Qantas .. First caught up in the grounding, and now stuck in Dubai

Twitter

I'm just thankful you didn't link to the nonews version. It as a paragraph and a sentence on the incident, a paragraph on how Stephen Fry was onboard, and then a couple of paragraphs on QF32, made to read as if it was talking about the QF31 diversion (including a nice big photo of damaged engines of QF32)

On board reports (reliable) are of a simple oil leak and landed to check it out - no dramas on board.

Looks like QF are being a little quiet on updating people as to what is going on...

Apart from news limited create a new aircraft type, I love how they have listed out everything inc minor things just to show you how dangerous it is to fly Qantas. Especially the problem on the 15th of feb...

Just looking at @stephenfry's tweets, he appears not to be a happy chappy. Especially after he left his wallet on board.
Twitter

He awarded QF brownie points for returning the wallet. Looking forward to QF building that into their marketing.

"At Qantas, our flights might get grounded, but we'll give them back to you eventually, just like we gave Stephen Fry his wallet back"

Cheers skip

They rebooked some F pax onto an Emirates flight but neglected to tell the F pax...

Why is this even news? Technical issues aren't unique to Qantas, but someone with an agenda at News seems to think it it. Over low quality journalism.

To be fair QF is news at the moment, engineering "quality" is news and the A380s have had recurrent engine issues - in the public mind this makes it news. I don't think it is newsworthy but I do think it was an unlucky timing issue after the lock out to have another incident - as minor as we may consider it.

Had read Fry's tweets, and QF's responses to same and others on the flight.

The Qantas Social Media team is really stepping things up a notch lately, seemingly let more off the leash and given more room to help pax. On the basis of Fry's swearing but humorous tweet (cannot be quoted here, way too much swearing) exclaiming that he'd left his wallets, cards and other items on board - it seems the social media team picked this up within moments, made contact with DXB, advised Fry this was being sorted (by Twitter no less), and had him reunited with said items.

It's quite funny, because a good portion of the media seemed to have found out about the incident on the basis of Fry's tweets. ABC News 24 was even having a conversation with him to find out what was going on and the feeling on board. On account of the last point, he said:
@ABCnews24: I should in all conscience add that staff are being wondrful & that morale is high and the passengers understanding & cheerful.
