I am interested to know whether this flight has First Class or whether the plane is likely to have first class seating and is being sold as business....

My real question obviously is, i am likely to be travelling in business class on that flight... if i aim to get like seat 1-6, will it be an ordinary sky bed or could it be the better first class sleepers???

Thanks for your help. And of course i appreciate the planes can change hours before the flight, let alone 6 months away, but i was just wondering where things lie.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks heaps,

Paulz

The flight is currently showing as a 2 class 747.

If you have access to your itinery through www.checkmytrip.com you should get a map of the J cabin.

2 seats side by side in Row 1 means it's business seating in the nose hence no First Class.

The plane being used is the "56 Business; 356 Economy Boeing 747-438 Longreach". The map is available here:

There is the chance the plane will change. Unlikely, but possible due to operational constraints.

only the non-stop MEL-LAX QF94 is a 3-class service. QF25 ops vis AKL and no F serivce into or out of AKL by QF.

As Mal posts - sometimes will get lucky and 3-class a/c used, but certainly dont count on it.

quite unusual now that the Skybed upgrade process has complete. This happened regularly when the 2-class aircraft were off-line for several weeks at a time being upgraded. Much rarer now and really only happens when there is an unscheduled maintenance problem.

The last time they planned an aircraft type change on the BNE-AKL-LAX QF25/26 run, they subbed a 743. So during November 2005, there was about a 50% chance of getting a 743 with dreamtimes!

The rollout schedule on the QF site for the skybed to be fitted to QF73/74 SYD to SFO indicates that completion is due "From end March 2006" so I gather from that, that some of the flights after they commence the route may have the older dreamtime seats.

Not that this has anything to do with the OP question about first class, but may be important to some OPs just the same.

I assumed that this "From March" message related to the fact that the SFO service doesnt start till then rather than anything to do with conversions

Dave is correct. All operating QF 747-400s now have Skybeds fitted. QF73/74 does not commence until March and as it will be operated by 747-400 aircraft, it will have Skybeds installed from that date.
